The current pandemic surge created a challenging environment to safely conduct jury trials in the municipal court facility.
The duty to protect the safety of citizen jurors, trial participants and court staff cannot be properly safeguarded at this time, it was announced. No person whose jury trial is being continued is incarcerated. While the delay prolongs the uncertainty of outcomes for both defendants and victims of crime, there is no other short term alternative.
All jurors summoned to appear for jury duty in municipal court during this time period are released from their duty to appear. All other municipal court hearings and functions will continue as scheduled.
