Salem firefighter dies in head-on collision Saturday
MARIETTA — A member of the Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department died in a head-on collision near State Route 821 near Marietta.
Jerrod Grosklos was killed in an accident around 5 p.m. Saturday on exit 6 off of I-77 north near the ParMar store, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
According to Salem Township Fire Chief Jay Handschumacher, Grosklos began with the department in April 2019, was on the fire brigade at Momentum plant where he worked and was previously a member of the Little Muskingum and Oak Grove fire departments.
“He was a good one,” Handschumacher said.
No other injuries were reported and Handschumacher said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
Handschumacher said funeral arrangements are pending.
“Salem Township has lost a good firefighter,” he said.
