The Zonta Club of the Mid-Ohio Valley has received no nominations for its top award, so the group has extended the nomination deadline and included women in Wood County in the eligibility criteria.
The recipient of the Betty L. Hadler Zonta Woman of the Year Award is announced each year at the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner. Recent winners included Cathy Harper and Melissa Arnold.
"So far we haven't received a single nomination, so we've extended the deadline for nominations and opened the geographical location of the nominee to include Wood County, W.Va., as well as Washington County, Ohio," Zonta President Keri Dunn said.
The award is based on a woman's volunteer service and her impact on the community, Dunn said. Nominations are solicited from clubs, service organizations and the public.
Nominations must be postmarked by Feb. 28 and must include biographical information on the nominee, a comprehensive account of volunteer activities including time spans, organizations, duties, awards and accomplishments, a narrative of her impact on the community and the name, address and telephone number of the nominator.
The nominee must be a resident of Washington or Wood counties. Include letters of support if possible from those who know of the nominee's volunteer activities.
Enclose all information in a sealed envelope and send it to Zonta Club of the MOV, Woman of the Year, P.O. Box 634, Marietta, OH 45750.
The 107th annual chamber dinner will be held March 7 at the Dyson-Baudo Recreation Center at Marietta College. A reception starts at 5 p.m., dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.
Keynote speaker is Joe DeLoss, creator of the Hot Chicken Takeover restaurant chain.
Tickets are on sale and are $60 for chamber members and $70 for non members.
