Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Garic B.D. Warner, Marietta Post, was honored with the Col. Thomas W. Rice Leadership Award, which is presented to one sworn supervisory officer for outstanding leadership.
The award is sponsored by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Retirees’ Association and is in honor of former Patrol Superintendent Thomas W. Rice.
A press release from the OSHP stated Warner shows a great balance when it comes to motivating both his shifts and others. He is described as a humble person who leads, guides and directs troopers to accomplish goals at the post and the district, and expects no recognition.
He leads with a positive attitude as an example for post troopers, and serves as a mentor for troopers and those in his community.
Warner began his patrol career in April 1998 as a member of the 131st Academy Class. He earned his commission in October of that year and was assigned to the Zanesville Post.
In 2005, he was selected as Post Trooper of the Year. As a trooper, he has also served at the Mt. Gilead Post. In 2011, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to the Marietta Post to serve as an assistant post commander.
Warner earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Otterbein College in 1996. He also earned a master’s degree in sports science from Ohio University in 2014.
