• Police were dispatched to Vine Street in reference to a theft report. Upon investigation, it was found that the person involved had been the victim of an online scam. The case remains under further investigation.
Dec. 21
• Police responded to a Ninth Street residence in reference to a theft. Officers made contact with the victim, who advised his wife had applied for a new job and was sent money from the company to purchase equipment. She was then caught in an "overpayment check" scam. The victim later found out the company was not real and was unable to get the money back. The case remains under investigation.
• Police investigated a theft complaint from WalMart. Police arrested Charity Bless Velasco Franco, 18, for theft after she underscanned more than $140 worth of goods. She was released on a personal recognizance bond.
Dec. 22
• Police conducted a traffic stop near the WalMart parking lot. During the stop, a K9 gave a positive indication for illegal drugs. A search revealed a baggie of suspected methamphetamine on the passenger. Charges will be requested once lab results are returned.
Dec. 23
• Police investigated the report of a shoplifter at Walmart. A woman failed to scan $77 in merchandise. A court summons will be requested.
• Police investigated the report of a shoplifter at Walmart. The suspect concealed more than $500 in makeup in a bag and was caught. The suspect, Haley M. Linkous, 29, also had an active warrant through the Washington County Sheriff's Office. She was taken to jail on the warrant and will receive a court summons on the theft.
Dec. 25
• Police investigated a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Third Street. Upon investigation officers determined Tarient A. Betton, 48, was the primary aggressor. He was arrested for domestic violence and taken to jail.
• Police were dispatched to a Fifth Street residence regarding a disturbance. A 17-year-old female found there had been breaking out windows. She was taken to juvenile center with charges of domestic violence and criminal damaging.
Dec. 26
• Police responded to a theft complaint at Bridgeport Equipment and Tool on Acme Street. The suspect stole a DeWalt drill valued at $299.
• Police checking on a Ford Taurus behind Aldi's seized suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle. The driver was advised the suspected methamphetamine would be sent to the lab for testing.
