POMEROY -- Authorities recently made a large drug bust in Meigs County, according to a press release from the Meigs County Sheriff's Department.
Meigs County Sheriff Scott Fitch reported that on Friday deputies with his department and agents with the Southeast Major Crimes Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at 30958 Durst Ridge Road in Lebanon Township. The search warrant was the result of an illegal drug investigation involving David "Davie" Lawson, 49, of Portland, Ohio.
Agents and deputies made entry into the residence and located Lawson, Michael Ingle and three other individuals.
The five individuals were detained and the residence searched. Authorities seized a large quantity of crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, cash and other evidence pertaining to drug trafficking, the release said.
Lawson was arrested and charged with drug trafficking and possession of drugs. Michael Ingle was arrested on an active warrant for failure to appear. Additional charges are pending.
"Illegal drug use has a nexus to approximately 90% of all crimes committed in Meigs County," Fitch said. "I am committed to making the community a safer place by sending a strong message to those that are poisoning our community with drugs. I would like to commend the work of the Major Crimes Task Force and my deputies for their continued efforts in helping to stop the flow of drugs into Meigs County."
The Southeast Major Crimes Task Force is part of the Ohio Attorney General's Office, Organized Crime Investigations Commission, and is comprised of representatives of the Washington, Morgan, Noble, Monroe, Meigs, and Athens County Sheriff's Offices; the Marietta, Belpre, Glouster, Middleport, McConnelsville and Nelsonville Police Departments; the Washington, Morgan, Noble, Monroe, Meigs and Athens County Prosecutor's Offices; and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
