Meetings

¯ There will be a Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Beverly Center Elementary School, 510 Fifth Street, Beverly.

¯ PERI, (Public Employee Retirees Inc.) Washington County Chapter 51, will have a meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Marietta First Church of Nazarene, 100 Millcreek Road off Colegate Drive. All previous members and any interested retired employees of OPERS are welcome.

¯ There will be a Policy Committee meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Beverly Center Elementary School, 510 Fifth Street Beverly.

¯ Independence Township will meet at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the townhouse on Upper Archers Fork Road.

¯ Mid-Ohio Valley Citizens Action Coalition will meet the second and fourth Mondays of each month at Freedom Gate Church, Tennis Center Road, Marietta. See the organization's website for more information.

¯ Watertown Township Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month at the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department.

¯ Liberty Township will hold regular monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month.

¯ The Village of Lower Salem will meet at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Village Hall for regular council meetings.

¯ Decatur Township will hold its monthly public meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the township building on Welch Road in Cutler.

¯ Waterford Township Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at the township building.

¯ Lawrence Township will meet at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Little Muskingum Volunteer Fire Department, Marietta.

¯ The Washington County Joint Vocational School District Board of Education will hold regular monthly meetings at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of each month in the Annex Building Board Room.

¯ Ludlow Township will hold regular monthly meetings the last day of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the town hall.

¯ Youth baseball registration is now open at mariettabantam.net. In-person registration is from 5-7 p.m. March 3 at the field garage, 211 Linwood Ave.

¯ The Washington County Historical Society will present a program about Charlotte Scott and the Emancipation Monument at 7 p.m. Monday, March 6, at The Castle, 418 Fourth St.. The speaker, Scott Britton, will bring light to this bit of hidden local history when Charlotte Scott lived in Marietta in 1865 and initiated a grand plan for African Americans to honor President Lincoln with a monument in Washington D.C. The program is free and open to the public. The program is co-sponsored by Washington County Public Library.

¯ St. Luke's Episcopal Church will serve a home-cooked meal from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 7. The meal is both dine-in and take-out. If you would like a take-out meal, call the church office at 740-373-5132 before noon on Tuesday and give your name and the number of meals you request. A limit may apply. ¯ The Western Washington County Seniors will host a Longaberger Basket Bingo. Door opens at 10:30 a.m. bingo at noon Saturday, March 25, at the Cutler Community Center, 4550 Two Mile Run Road. The kitchen will be open and selling tacos-in-a-bag, nachos, hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips, drinks and desserts. There will be a country store raffle, large raffles and a 50/50 drawing. ¯ The Zonta Club of the MOV will hold its Spring Unique Boutique Gently Used Clothing Sale from 2-8 p.m. March 31 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 1, at the Reno Community Center, 260 Sandhill Road, Marietta. Donations of men's, women's and children's clothing, coats, shoes, purses and accessories may be dropped off between 4-8 p.m. March 27-30 at the same location. Clothing may also be dropped off at Advantage Real Estate and McCarthy Real Estate during normal business hours. Saturday will be a $10 bag sale. Concessions will be sold. Join them on a bus trip to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens (box lunch) Akron, and then on to Dayton Nursery in Norton. The Registration is $105 and includes bus transportation, garden and mansion tours, snacks on the bus, box lunch, driver gratuity and educational handouts. ¯ Men's Breakfast at 9 a.m. every first Tuesday of every month, breakfast is provided and made at the O'Neill Center (Free but monetary donations are welcome).

¯ Free community meal the fourth Tuesday of every month from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta. Pickup only, enter through church parking lot from Wooster Street.

¯ St. Luke's Episcopal Church is experiencing physical and/or medical limitations, both current and impending, so the Community Meal, which is offered the first Tuesday of each month, will be suspended in June. The meal will still be available for dine-in or take-out on Feb. 7, March 7, April 4, and May 9. ¯ A faith-based cancer support group is offered at noon on the second Monday of each month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman ave., Marietta.

¯ The 1955 Graduating class of Marietta High School, has changed the day for the monthly luncheon gathering. The group will be meeting at 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice. All classmates and friends are welcome.

¯ Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the first Friday of each month. All are welcome.

¯ Gilman United Methodist Church offers worship at 10:30 a.m., every Sunday. Come early to join the adult Sunday school class at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and good fellowship at "Coffee Time" held at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday, at 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. A weekly adult Bible study with Pastor Doug Thompson is also offered at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. on Sundays. All are welcome.

¯ The Alzheimer's Association offers professionally led groups for caregivers, individuals living with Alzheimer's and others dealing with the disease of dementia. All support groups are facilitated by trained individuals. Meeting in the area include: Marietta Support Group, from 10-11:30 a.m. first Friday of every month at the O'Neill Center, 333 Fourth St., Marietta, Facilitator: Krissy Kearns 937-974-2387. Belpre Chamber of Commerce, from 1-2:40 p.m. second Monday of every month at 713 Park Drive, Belpre, Facilitator: Susie Casto.

¯ The O'Neill Center will have chair volleyball at 9 a.m. every Wednesday (except the second Wednesday of the month).

¯ Mani/Pedi's with appointments starting at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Cost $16 for manicure and $33 for pedicure, call the O'Neill Center for appointments.

¯ Two programs, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, will be offered at Gilman United Methodist Church for 13 weeks, starting from noon-1:30 p.m. and from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the church's Fellowship Hall concluding May 18. Church is located at 312 Gilman Ave., in Marietta's Harmar Village.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

¯ Zumba classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O'Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.

¯ The O'Neill Center in Marietta will host bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursday mornings. There is no cost at the door to play 20 games, and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited.

¯ Weekly ballroom dancing are from 7-10 p.m. every second, third, and fourth Saturday of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Casual dress, $5 per person donation, singles and couples welcome.

¯ The O'Neill Center will have a free gentle yoga class at 10 a.m. every Tuesday.

¯ The O'Neill Center will have bridge at 1 p.m. every Tuesday.

¯ The O'Neill Center will have Euchre at 1 p.m. every Wednesday.

¯ AARP Tax-Aide is offering free tax return preparation for all taxpayers on Mondays and Thursdays starting Feb. 6 to April 13. Schedule appointments by calling Washington Co Library (Main Branch) 740-373-1057, NO WALK-INS. Taxpayers should bring all their tax documents including any letters from IRS along with a copy of last year's tax return plus picture ID and Social Security cards for all family members.
