MOVB to perform “Sleeping Beauty”

PARKERSBURG -- The Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet Company will present the classic fairy tale ballet "The Sleeping Beauty" in March and April in Marietta and Parkersburg.
The ballet will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday at Marietta High School Auditorium and 7 p.m. April 15 at Blennerhassett School Auditorium in Parkersburg.
Reserved seat tickets for the ballet are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 18.
There will also be general admission seats available and additional information on how to buy tickets can be found at www.movballet.com and click on the performances page.
Tickets can be purchased in person at the MOVB Offices, 1311 Ann St., Parkersburg, box office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the performance. Specially priced group tickets are also available.
The ballet is based on the original classic story written by Charles Perrault between 1330 and 1344. The Brothers Grimm wrote a similar story entitled "Little Briar-Rose" and there are many versions of the original story.
Bethany Truax, senior company member will dance the role of the Princess Aurora and her real-life father, Steve Truax, will appear as the King.
The Prince will be portrayed by guest performer Andrew Konjevec, a senior at Marietta College, and his companion by guest performer Brenden Thompson, a freshman at MC. The Queen will be portrayed by senior company member Jolene Troisi. Guest performers and MOVB alumni Sarah Yoak and Rebecca Segrest will dance the roles of the Lilac Fairy and Carabosse.
Also appearing in guest roles as the Cavaliers will be Danny Bayer, George Litman and Earl Khosrovi along with company trainee Keegan Marsh. The fairies will be danced by company members Sarah Harvey, Mallory Thomas, Violet Bevins and Helena Smith with a special appearance by MOVB alumnus Kith Held. Additional cast members include Bailey Gibeau, Meggan Starcher, Amelia Auville. Danae Tibbs, Elliott Akeman, Eleanor VanHook, Emillia Weltner and Emily Ashley. Twenty-five students from the MOVBallet Academy of Fine Arts, the official school of instruction for the MOVB company, will dance the roles of the royal children.
MOVB is a professional, non-profit dance group that performs concerts, lecture demonstrations and Arts in Education performances annually. MOVB has toured extensively throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio since 1983 presenting specially produced one-hour versions of the current ballet through the "School Days Performing Arts Series." This special arts in education program has allowed over 30,000 public school children to see a live arts performance who may otherwise never have the opportunity.
