The Washington County Board of Elections is asking residents who use the voting precinct at Warren High School's old gymnasium to avoid the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times for students, if at all possible.
The times to avoid are 7:15-7:30 a.m. and 8:45-9:15 a.m., when school buses and parents are dropping off students. The busy afternoon pick-up times are 2:10-2:40 p.m. and 3:30-4 p.m.
"If you could plan to vote around lunch time, for example, that would be really helpful," said elections office deputy director Karen Pawloski.
The board also would like to separate the access routes used by voters from the routes used by school vehicles, she said.
"If you come from the west, take (Ohio) 550 to Warrior Drive. Try to avoid turning left or right from (Ohio) 339 onto Warrior."
She reminded voters that they are using the same precincts as last November's general election. The Warren voters are using the old school gymnasium, not the new one.
Voters at the high school also will see some new, young faces helping with the election. Warren is participating in Youth at the Booth, a state program that allows 17-year-olds who are juniors or seniors to be poll workers. Before last year only seniors could participate, but many poll workers have retired, especially since the COVID epidemic, Pawloski said. The extra workers are a big help.
At Warren, there are about seven students participating in Youth at the Booth.
"It's a chance for them to provide some great civic service," Pawloski said.
