¯ Public Employee Retirees Inc. will meet at 1 p.m. today at Marietta First Church of the Nazarene, 100 Millcreek Road. The meeting is prior to the district meeting in June at Stockport. Open to all previous members and any interested retired employees of OPERS.
¯ There will be a Finance Committee meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday at Beverly Center Elementary School, 510 Fifth St., Beverly.
¯ The Fiscal 2024 (Round 18) Natural Resources Assistance Council committee meeting will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Buckeye Hills Regional Council, 1400 Pike St. The meeting will review the Fiscal 2024 scoring methodology. ¯ The Belpre City School District Board of Education will hold a special board meeting at 10 a.m. on Friday. The session will be held at the Stone Administration Building/Early Learning Center. The purpose for the meeting is to conduct one executive session only for the purpose of discussing staffing and other matters that are required to be kept confidential by state or federal statute. No board action will be taken.

¯ The Marietta Branch Library will host "De-Coding the Ancient Script of Chinese Characters" from 3-5 p.m. Friday. May is Asian American Month. Marietta College Assistant Professor Ni Zhang will be teaching a class on how to write and interpret Chinese script characters. This class will use video instruction, games and unique "practice paper" to learn about the history, evolution and practice of Chinese script. Professor Zhang will also be able to send each participant home with a "drawing" of their name. This event is open to all ages. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required. ¯ Fearing Township Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual Mother's Day Dinner, 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14, at 1975 Stanleyville Road, Whipple, Ohio. Menu will be baked steak or chicken breast with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, bread and dessert. Meal includes coffee or tea. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children. There will be a raffle for a Canik 9mm with 20 round magazine. Tickets are $10, must be 21.
¯ Friends of Forgotten Felines is holding a fundraiser from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday at Tractor Supply, 100 Cherry Tree Lane. A hotdog, chips and a drink is $5. All proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization dedicated to the care of abandoned felines in the area.
¯Dog Days in May, sponsored by Belpre Heights Church will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday (rain date, May 27) at Howes Grove Park, Belpre. Various vendors including nail trimming and ear cleaning. Pet photos will be included along with different dog obedience trainers. Bring dogs and join in playing games to win prizes. The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley will give free vaccinations, but donations are appreciated, and microchipping for $20. There will be a site for donations. There will be a schedule of events going on all afternoon including Ask a Trainer Time. Raffles will be going on including for a dog house built by the Carpenter Class of Washington County Career Center. Come and see dogs and cats that are up for adoption from the shelter and rescue group.

¯ The Marietta Branch Library will host a Spring Adult Button Craft at 4 p.m. on May 16. Participants will pick a spring design to make by gluing buttons to a framed canvas. This event is for ages 13+. Registration is required. To register, call 740-373-1057 x200 or stop by the Marietta Branch.

¯ The Books & Brews Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. on May 17. This club meets once a month to discuss a book that has fermentation in it (alcohol). This month will be discussing "The Shortest Way Home" by Miriam Parker. We meet at Over the Moon Pub & Pizza, 170 Front Street, in the bar area at the back. Non-Alcoholic drinks will be provided. ¯ All ages are welcome at the Paint by Sticker Art Class from 3-5 p.m. on Fridays, May 19 and 26 at the Marietta Branch Library. There are many books to choose from for kids and adults. Pick out the canvas you want to "paint" with its corresponding sticker page. The library provides all materials for different levels and ages. There are also some large "tweezers" to help handle the stickers. This is an open-ended class, so you can come anytime during the hours of 3-5. ¯ Marietta Township's School Reunion will be held May 20 at the Marietta Township Community Building in Reno. Former students of Sand Hill, Reno, Goose Run, Jennings Hill, Cornerville, Barker and Yankeeburg schools are included. Meat, coffee, tea and table service will be provided. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish to share and memorabilia of your school and community. Other guests are welcome. ¯ Boys & Girls Club of Washington County will be hosting a Variety Bingo at 2 p.m. with doors opening at 1 p.m. on May 21 at its Marietta site, 307 Lancaster Street. The event will feature prizes from Pampered Chef, Alex+Ani and Thirty-one among others. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The events will also feature concessions, door prizes, pull tabs and a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will benefit the construction of the Garrett Scott Memorial Teen Center and Music Program. ¯ St. Paul's Evangelical Church, corner of Fifth and Scammel across from Mound Cemetery in June, will hold a yard sale from 8-2 p.m. June 2 and 8-1 p.m. June 3. Proceeds benefit the church. Among items for sale are Christian items, books, pictures, Sunday school supplies and miscellaneous items including toys, kitchen items, household items and timeless treasures. No clothes or large appliances.
¯ Friends of Forgotten Felines, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, will be holding its annual yard sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at 106 Deer Haven St., Marietta. Also proceeds go towards our Trap, Neuter and Release program and caring for the cats at the fairgrounds.
¯ Salem Township VFD will hold an ice cream social a 4 p.m. June 3 at Salem-Liberty Elementary School. Baked steak or chicken dinners available along with a country store, Bingo and bouncy houses.

¯ Gilman United Methodist Church offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Come early to join the adult Sunday school class at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and good fellowship at "Coffee Time" held at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday, at 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. ¯ The Alzheimer's Association offers professionally led groups for caregivers, individuals living with Alzheimer's and others dealing with the disease of dementia. All support groups are facilitated by trained individuals. Meetings in the area include: Marietta Support Group, from 10-11:30 a.m. first Friday of the month at the O'Neill Center, 333 Fourth St., Marietta; facilitator: Krissy Kearns, 937-974-2387. Belpre Chamber of Commerce from 1-2:40 p.m. second Monday of the month at 713 Park Drive, Belpre; facilitator: Susie Casto.
¯ The O'Neill Center will hold chair volleyball at 9 a.m. Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of the month.
¯ Mani/pedis with appointments starting at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Cost is $16 for manicure and $33 for pedicure. Call the O'Neill Center for appointments.
¯ TOPS 399, Marietta, meets 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene to help members lose weight by group support to a goal set by each member's physician. TOPS Club Inc. is a nonprofit, weight-loss support and wellness education organization in the United States and Canada. ¯ The O'Neill Center in Marietta will host bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursday mornings. No cost at the door to play 20 games, and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited.
¯ Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be 7-10 p.m. the second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Casual dress, $5 per person donation, singles and couples welcome.
