Washington Morgan Community Action announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. Free meals will be made available to children 18 years of age and under or persons over 18 who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be medically or physically disabled.
This year the meals are grab and go.
For planning purposes and to ensure children receive a hot meal, families should call the central kitchen at 740-373-3455 and indicate which site they will be picking up a meal. Calls should be made the day before or before 8 a.m. on the day the children would like to have a meal.
For a growing number of children, school lunch and breakfast have become principal meals of the day. During the summer months, these meals are not available through the school. Studies show that children who do not receive proper nutrition over summer months begin school six months behind their peers. The summer nutrition program is an important component of school readiness.
Free, hot meals will be available Monday through Friday at the following sites through Aug. 11:
¯ Beverly (Presbyterian Church): 200 Fourth St., Beverly. From 12: 15 p.m. through 12:45 p.m.
¯ Lower Salem Village Hall: Ohio 821, Lower Salem from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.
¯ Lowell Elementary School, 305 Market St., Lowell from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
¯ Warren Middle School (Building #6), 60 Warrior Drive, Vincent, 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.
¯ Belpre (Church of Nazarene), 1301 Putnam Howe, Belpre, from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
¯ Carrol Senior Center, 606 Broadway Ave., New Matamoras, from noon to 12:30 p.m.
¯ Marietta , 307 Lancaster St., Marietta, from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
