Driver killed in I-77 accident
PARKERSBURG – A driver of a truck was killed Saturday afternoon in an accident on Interstate 77, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family, the office said.
The accident happened near the 178 mile marker where a tractor trailer hauling brine water was traveling south on the interstate, the office said. Upon crossing the area of the Worthington Creek bridge, the tractor trailer ran off the road to the right and then swerved into the median, causing it to overturn, the office said.
The cab sustained major damage and the driver died as a result of injuries, the office said. No other vehicles were involved, the office said.
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. and is under investigation by the Wood County crash team. The road was closed for several hours in both directions.
