Local Scout receives national award; Yannitell honored for Battlefield Cross monument

William Yannitell of Scout Troop 207 has received the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award for his Eagle Scout candidate project creating the Battlefield Cross Memorial Monument at Gold Star Park in Marietta.
The prestigious Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award, established by the National Eagle Scout Association, recognizes the profound impact made by an Eagle Scout candidate through the completion of an Eagle Scout project, according to a press release from the Muskingum Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Yannitell's initiative exemplifies the core values of scouting, demonstrating empathy, respect and gratitude for those who have served this country, the release said. Through meticulous planning and leadership, he successfully brought the memorial monument to fruition, leaving a lasting mark of appreciation and an enduring legacy in the Marietta Gold Star Park, the release said.
When asked about his achievement, Yannitell said, "I am grateful for receiving the Muskingum Valley Council Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award, and it means volumes to me; however, I am more grateful for the path along the way."
The Muskingum Valley Council recognizes the profound impact Yannitell's project will have on the local veterans, the city of Marietta, his troop, and himself, the press release said.
"His dedication to service is a testament to the values instilled by scouting, nurturing responsible and compassionate citizens.
"William's achievement in earning the rank of Eagle Scout stands as the pinnacle of his scouting journey. The Eagle Scout rank represents a culmination of dedication, perseverance, and personal growth, preparing him for a lifetime of success," the release said.
"We are immensely proud of William Yannitell for receiving this prestigious award," said Roger Stoll, Scoutmaster of Troop 207.
"His Battlefield Cross Veterans Memorial Monument project exemplifies the true spirit of scouting, leaving a lasting impact on our community. He is an inspiration to his fellow Scouts and a role model for all."
American Legion Post 64 of Marietta is the chartering organization for Troop 207.
The Muskingum Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America is committed to providing young individuals with opportunities for character development, leadership training and personal growth through various scouting programs, according to the press release.
