VINCENT -- Incoming Warren High School senior Jordan Lee is a letter earner in multiple activities.
Lee, 16, is a senior due to being able to skip third grade for academic performance. He said he likes a lot of school subjects but does have a favorite.
"I enjoy all subjects in school due to the fact that I like to learn, but prefer math and science because I love numbers," he said.
Lee said he gets As and Bs in his classes and scored a 31 on the ACT college admissions test. He said he's always had an analytical brain.
"I have always loved tinkering with things for as long as I can remember. In fact, I am always taking things apart and getting in trouble for doing so. I also am fascinated by God and Christian theology. I also am fascinated by paradoxes such as 'The next statement is a lie. The previous statement is the truth,' as they are very interesting and are hard to wrap your brain around," he said.
Outside of the classroom, Lee is a member of various clubs. One is the esports club, short for electronic sports. Electronic sports is a form of competition featuring video games. Individuals or teams play against each other online.
Warren High School is a member of Esports Ohio, a statewide league of high schools that participate in esports and the various video games included.
"Esports Ohio has a lot of different games to choose from, but we only do the games we can get players for," Lee explained. "The past couple of years Super Smash Brothers Ultimate has been the big one for our school and that's the one I participate in."
On May 6, Lee traveled to Columbus as a member of Warren's team to participate in Esports Ohio's Regional Championships. The team had five members and an alternate.
"Although we didn't make it past the first round, we went to Dave and Buster's afterwards and that was fun," he said.
Other school activities Lee has participated in include playing trombone in the marching band for four years and two years on the archery team.
Outside the classroom, Lee said he loves volunteering with his church's youth group.
"We've done things from packing food for the hungry at both of the great Friday events, to helping weed an older member of the church's flower garden. We are currently in the process of working on a project with Blueprints to pack bags for foster children and later this week we are volunteering at the Latrobe Street Mission," he said.
After high school, Lee is considering three colleges due to their unique offerings: Ohio University due to its marching band and proximity to home, University of Akron for its esports team and engineering program, and Cedarville University because it's a Christian institution.
Lee said engineering is an ideal career choice for him.
"I am interested in an engineering major because of the way my mind works and the fact that I love to tinker with things," he said.
