Marietta woman writes fourth chapbook

A Marietta woman has written a fourth chapbook of her poetry.
Sandra Kolankiewicz's "Even the Cracks" touches numerous topics including kindness and compassion, personal growth, abuse of authority, respect for the suffering of others, humanity involvement with nature and tightly holding onto the past or letting go too quickly.
Kolankiewicz, 66, said she began writing as a little girl of 9 after her dad lost his life saving the family in a fire.
He went into the fire, saved his wife first, then his two daughters and a friend, but collapsed on the wrong side of the window from where they made their escape.
"How else do you make sense of that when you're a kid," Kolankiewicz said.
"Turning Inside Out," her first chapbook, a collection of poems on a focused subject, won the Black River Chapbook Competition 16 years ago. She also has published "The Way You Will Go" and "Lost in Transition."
Kolankiewicz, who was a teacher in Marietta, is married to Hunt Brawley, executive director of the Peoples Bank Theatre in Marietta.
"Even the Cracks" is a collection of 32 poems. It will be available in November, but pre-orders are being taken.
"I hear him even louder than this ringing in my ears, a sound he labeled an attempt by enlightened beings to communicate with me truths I do not want to hear, spirits invisible to me in the shower but who know my every move and forgive me when I stray, who don't judge me because the kind of judging we do in three dimensions is impossible without a body, and this is all the body I'll ever get, he said, so make sure I visit every inch, even the cracks," says the last line of the poem "Even the Cracks."

Preorders for books, available at a discounted rate of $15.99, will be taken until Sept. 15, after which the book returns to its regular price, $17.99. The book will arrive in November.
