Patriot, model, actor and athlete, South teen does it all

By Douglass Huxley 4 min read

PARKERSBURG -- Incoming Parkersburg South High School senior Chase Anderson is looking forward to getting back onto the track after tearing his hamstring during a meet his junior year.

"I PR-ed (personal record) in the 100 (m), I ran 11:01, and set a meet record, and then, the very next meet, I tore my hamstring, and I was out the rest of the season," Anderson said. "So, I'm just hoping to come back better this year, my senior year."

Anderson said he runs the sprint events, the 100m, 200m and relays, and said he feels healthy and ready to get back on the track.

"I'm healing up, doing my physical therapy, I'm doing some sprint training, stuff like that, getting back into the flow," Anderson said.

He said he's been running track since his third grade year and likes to stay as active and healthy as he can. He said he was also part of the swim team his freshman year, but after a shoulder injury, he began to focus more on track.

"Because I feel like I'm getting better at that, and really do enjoy doing that," Anderson said. "Of course, I miss the (swim) team, but I feel like I shine more as an athlete in track than I did in swim."

Anderson also plans to shine off the sidelines this year as he takes the reins as the new South Patriot mascot. He said he'll have his musket ready for every football game, and will be at all the home games for both basketball teams.

"I think it will definitely be a sort of test of leadership," Anderson said. "I know I'll definitely have to be on my A game at the football games."

Anderson said his friend, and former South Patriot Zack Parsons, has given him some tips on things and plans to be at the first game to support him.

"I'll definitely be talking to him and getting advise from him to see what I can do better," Anderson said.

Anderson also shines outside of school as he is a working actor/model. He said he has been acting since he was 7 and has appeared in numerous commercials and TV shows.

"Recently I went to Indiana for a Shoe Carnival shoot for an ad on their Instagram," Anderson said. "Before that, I was on the show 'Storm of Suspicion,' it airs on The Weather Channel, I think, but it's about weather-related murders."

He said he has also appeared in movies such as the 2013 thriller "Chasing Death" and will be playing the lead role as Mike in the upcoming short film "The God Rock." He has also been in TV shows such as "Murder Calls" on Discovery+, "A Crime To Remember" and "The Hunt with John Walsh."

"For some reason I'm in a lot of murder mysteries," Anderson said. "It's a really cool experience. I really do enjoy acting."

He said he works his auditions around school and his other obligations but would like to do more acting when he can. He said he enjoys acting because it gives him a chance to step outside of his own life and into another person.

"And just portray what the directors would like to see in them, and it's just so interesting," Anderson said.

Anderson might be a star on TV but his interest lies in the stars in the night sky.

"I used to want to be an astronaut," Anderson said. "I love planes and space travel, and all that stuff. I'd like to learn more about that."

He said he's looking at getting into the aerospace engineering program at West Virginia University after he graduates, but said he is wanting to keep his options open because he is also interested in medical research.

Anderson said in his free time he enjoys lifting weights, spending time with his nieces and watching action movies.

He said he enjoys staying busy and that he stays positive about everything he does. He said one of his favorite quotes is from Henry Ford that says, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."

"You got to want it, you got to have it in your mind that you're going to do it," Anderson said. "Because if you think you can, you can, and if you think you can't, you're not going to be able to. Because you just have to stay positive and have faith in yourself, and faith in God, and know that you're going to do what you want to do if you put your mind to it."
