VINCENT -- Warren High School senior Taylor McConnell sings her own tune in the chorus of life.
"I am an active member in our school's choral department being in Treble, Bass, and A Capella choir," she said.
McConnell said she was looking forward to participating in choir going into her senior year and growing with her fellow musicians.
"I am really looking forward to choir this year and seeing the progression of all of them. I feel like we have some really great groups here and I'm just really excited," she said.
McConnell has auditioned and been accepted into the American Choral Directors Association regional and national honor choirs. She also has auditioned and participated in the Ohio Music Education Association All-State Choir in her sophomore and junior year.
Among goals this year is to be selected for All-State Choir a third time.
Academically, McConnell has a 3.5 GPA and takes classes through the College Credit Plus program.
"I have taken CCP Government and Western Civilizations, Composition One and this year I'm taking College Algebra, Intro to Education, Early Childhood Development and Education Seminar," she said.
She enjoys English, too.
"I love writing and telling stories as well as reading,"McConnell said.
Outside the classroom, McConnell plays on Warren's varsity soccer team. She also volunteers at Warren's Youth Soccer camp during the summer.
"I don't volunteer to make myself feel good or to be praised. I volunteer because it's fun and I enjoy helping people," she said.
McConnell said she plans to attend college, but hasn't decided on a school. However, she plans to major in early childhood education with a music minor to combine two major loves.
"Ever since I was little I loved playing school with my siblings and I would make them take tests and everything. I really love interacting with kids," she said. "I have always loved music so much, so I want to be able to incorporate that into my classroom."
Another reason McConnell is pursuing teaching is a love of learning and providing a place for students to feel accepted.
"I want to be an impactful teacher whose kids learn to love school. I have been very fortunate to have learned to love school and feel as though it is a safe space through my teachers, so I want to be like that," she said.
