Marietta has zoning and planning input and water plant groundbreaking events on the calendar for city residents this week.
Residents in Marietta City Council Wards One, Two, Three and Four are invited to share their views on zoning and comprehensive planning for the city at public meetings Monday and Tuesday. Wards 1 and 3 will meet Monday at Washington State Community College's Graham Auditorium. The First Ward session will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the Third Ward session at 7:30 p.m.
Wards Two and Four will meet Tuesday at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave. The Second Ward session will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the Fourth Ward session at 7:30 p.m.
"This is a good chance to talk about zoning concerns and land use opportunities in your specific wards," said Council member Geoff Schenkel, chair of council's Planning, Zoning, Annexation and Housing committee.
"It's a chance to point out what's not working, but it's also a chance to consider untapped potential."
Schenkel said the meetings would have third-party facilitators so that council members had the chance to participate in the group exchanges.
In the other City of Marietta event during the week, a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Marietta Water Treatment Plant will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the water treatment plant site, 2000 Fourth St.
The city will fund the project with a $45,967,474 loan from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance, Water Supply Revolving Loan Account.
The new plant, which will use reverse osmosis technology for water treatment, also has received $10.1 million in a forgiveable loan amount from the Ohio EPA's emerging contaminants project funding.
Residents will not have an interruption in service during the new plant's installation, according to city plans.
The existing treatment plant has two facilities, one of which will provide service and not be demolished until the new plant is running for 90 days.
