BELPRE -- Belpre City School District recognized several individuals and accepted a number of donations at its September Board of Education meeting Thursday.
Treasurer Lance Erlwein reported for Superintendent Jeffrey Greenly at Thursday's meeting.
Erlwein thanked the following for their contributions to the Belpre High School Cross Country Invitational: City of Belpre for use of Civitan Park; Belpre Area Community Foundation for donations; Belpre Rotary – Larry Arnold and crew for help with parking during the event; Tom and Margaret Webster, as well as Jerry Miller for their donations toward the event; School District Volunteers and Maintenance Crew for their help, as well as Public Volunteers for their efforts; Michael Church for videography of the event; and Rod O'Donnell for his hard work throughout the year for the Cross Country Invitational.
"The event was a huge success," said Erlwein.
"There were 500 runners from 31 teams, 700 attendees, and 80 to 100 volunteers for the event," said Board Vice President Cathy O'Donnell. "Ron (O'Donnell) even got a call from a college coach with hopes of using the venue again for an NCAA meet, but we're not sure yet if that venue will accommodate them."
Erlwein also reported that the new Belpre High School track project is completed and painted.
"Sod is laid, work is done," Erlwein said. "It looks fantastic."
He also thanked Parkersburg High School for allowing the Belpre High School football team to play on their field.
The Belpre City School Board approved an Online Day/Remote Learning Optional Plan as well as a donation of one of their school buses to the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department.
"The Warren Volunteer Fire Department is very thankful to get the bus," said board member Fred Meredith about the donation.
"They said it will bring in two other fire departments for training. They mentioned they very rarely get buses for training and they are very excited and very grateful."
The board also voted to accept the following donations: $1,250 from OHSAA to Athletics (Athletics Enrichment Fund); $60 from Frostee Shoppe to Class of 2025; $346.20 from Wings, Etc. of Marietta to Volleyball; $31.32 from OhioPyle Printing to BHS principal's fund; $200 from Marvin Boyce of WV Wealth Advisors to BHS STEAM Lab; $1,000 from Jerry Miller to Cross Country; $600 from Belpre Lodge to Football for the senior football players help with the hot dog and hamburger stand during the Belpre Homecoming; $600 from JD Byrider to Athletics (student admissions sponsorship); $600 from Belpre Homecoming to Athletics (student admissions sponsor); $250 from Tom and Margaret Webster to Cross Country; $4,200 from the Belpre Area Community Development Foundation to Cross Country for the 2023 Cross Country Invitational; and $5,500 from the Belpre Area Community Development Foundation to the B.H.S. Art Club.
The next regular Belpre City Schools Board of Education meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Stone Administration Building/Early Learning Center in the gymnasium.
