State Senator and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Matt Dolan recently visited southeast Ohio, which included a meeting with officials of Marietta Memorial Hospital and a boat cruise on the Ohio River with local sheriffs.
"The emphasis of today's visit to southeast Ohio was to meet with and listen to local healthcare and law enforcement officials to better understand the unique challenges impacting this region of the state. I will never stop working to deliver results for all Ohioans and be the strongest, most effective voice possible for their needs," Dolan said.
Dolan began the day meeting with Marietta Memorial Hospital CEO Scott Cantlay and other hospital officials. As chairman of the Ohio Senate Finance Committee, Dolan was instrumental in securing an unprecedented $30 million in state funding for the Memorial Health System, headquartered in Marietta. The funding was included in the state operating budget signed into law earlier this summer. Due in large part to this increased funding, the health system has announced plans to build the only women and children's hospital in southeast Ohio. In the second leg of his visit, Dolan attended the southeast regional meeting of the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, held on a boat cruise hosted by Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks. The meeting included several regional sheriffs and featured discussion of various measures being taken around the state to keep communities safe, as well as some of the challenges they are facing. Dolan shared details of his recent visit to America's southern border with Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton. He emphasized the reality of lethal drugs like fentanyl flooding into the country through the border.
"The consequences of this crisis are not only being felt at the border itself," Dolan said. "It is being felt in Ohio and throughout the country. The law enforcement community understands this, as do the growing number of Ohioans who know someone who has been victimized by this scourge. It is a fixable problem, but we need more leaders in Washington, D.C. who understand our country's dire need for enhanced border security." Dolan has been endorsed by 19 Ohio sheriffs from throughout the state, including Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks. "Throughout his years in public service, Matt Dolan has always remained steadfast in his support for law enforcement," Mincks said.
"As he again demonstrated today, Matt remains focused on the kinds of issues that directly impact the safety and security of all Ohioans. He has my full and enthusiastic support in his race for US Senate."
