Frontier BOE approves FFA building plan

NEW MATAMORAS -- Frontier Local Schools Board of Education approved Future Farmers of America's plans to build an agricultural education building on school property Thursday evening.

The new facility will be located parallel to the school's greenhouse, according to Kurt Bohlen, FFA adviser.

Bohlen, and Kristen West, Middle School agricultural education teacher, recently visited two high schools with agricultural buildings similar to what the district wants to build. The schools were Licking Valley High School in Newark, Ohio, and Ridgewood High School in Coshocton, Ohio.

"We visited to get insights into how these schools are running their practices," West said.

Bohlen said he has two possible bids ranging from $99,000 to $140,000. He said an anonymous donor had pledged $75,000 but has not received anything in writing.

With the anonymous donor, $25,000 out of FFA's account and other donations, West said she hoped the Agriculture Department wouldn't have to ask the board for any money to build the property.

The board also awarded contracts to Snider Recreation to build playgrounds for New Matamoras Elementary and Newport Elementary, worth $63,175 and $99,838, respectively.
