¯ The Warren Local Board of Education will meet 6 p.m. today at Warren High School, Building 2, 130 Warrior Drive, Vincent. The Operations Committee of the Warren board will meet at 5 p.m. today at the High School. The Learning, Instruction and Assessment Committee of the Warren Board will meet at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at the high school.

¯ Family and Children First will sponsor a fall session of the Strengthening Families 10-14 Program for parents and youth ages 10-14 from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 24 at the Ely Chapman Center in Marietta. The parent, youth and family skills-building curriculum builds family strengths, strengthens parenting skills and prevents teen substance abuse and other behavior problems. ¯ The Zonta Club of the MOV will sponsor its Delicates for Dignity Fundraiser through the end of October to support under-privileged girls and women in the community by providing feminine hygiene products, new bras and underwear. Items will be distributed at food pantries, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters and middle and high schools. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 634, Marietta, OH 45750. ¯ St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 401 Scammel St., Marietta, will hold its 20th annual Community Give-Away Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The congregation will donate slightly used items to those in the community in need. Items include toys, household goods, clothes, books and shoes, among others.
¯ The Daughters of the War of 1812 will honor Benjamin Franklin Palmer with a grave marking ceremony 11 a.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at Hougland Cemetery, Ohio 339, Barlow. Palmer served in the War of 1812, serving under local leader Capt. Timothy Buell. Palmer, born in 1791 in Vermont, found his way to Ohio in 1801 and married a local girl, Margaret Houghland. Parking will be available at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Vincent. All are welcome, particularly Palmer's descendants. ¯ Discovery World on Market will participate in the Our World: Worldwide Day of Play from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. The day is dedicated to joyful learning through play and focuses on getting kids and their families playing together. Discovery World on Market will participate with a variety of play-based activities throughout the museum.
¯ The Marietta High School Class of 1973 will hold a 50th reunion celebration on the weekend of Sept. 29-30. The class will kick off events with a reunion golf outing for family, friends and classmates on Friday morning. Classmates will gather for cocktails and reminiscing from 6-10 p.m. Friday at the Lafayette Hotel Gun Room. The celebration will continue from 4-10 p.m. Saturday with a BBQ dinner at $25 per person featuring music by The Chunga Sound Machine. ¯ The Washington County Republican Party will hold its annual Golf Scramble Friday at Lakeside Golf Course in Beverly. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Fees for the four-person scramble is $300 per team. Package includes greens fees, cart, skins, refreshments and steak dinner. ¯ The Marietta Branch Library Puzzle Exchange will be held 11-1:30 p.m. Saturday. Patrons are asked to drop off puzzles at the library's main desk. Puzzle pieces must be separated into zippered bags of 100 pieces and there must not be any missing pieces. Puzzles with missing pieces will be donated to the free table. Each person will receive one voucher per each puzzle accepted. The exchange will take place in the meeting room and patrons can choose from the puzzle collection. Patrons are permitted to take puzzles equal to the amount recorded of how many they donated. Ø The All American Family Picnic, a fundraiser for the Washington County Democrats, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Masonic Park in Devola, 145 Masonic Lane. Bring the whole family for games, live auction and silent auction. Dinner consisting of hot dogs, sides and desserts will be served at 5 p.m. Candidates for local office and other state representatives will be available. Cost is $25 for adults, kids are free, and college students are $10. Reservations may be made by calling 740-516-4913 or 740-373-3177. All are welcome.
¯ St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Marietta, will hold a free community meal 5-6 p.m. Tuesday. The meal is dine-in or take-out. It is required to call the church by noon at 740 373-5132 for take-out meals, otherwise is not certain a take-out meal will be available. Leave a name and the number of meals requested. A limit may be imposed.
¯ Beverly Methodist Church will have a Rummage and Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4. Fill as many bags as you want. Each bag will be $5. Larger items will be priced separately. The church is located at 700 Park St.,Beverly, and is handicapped accessible.
¯ The Washington County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman's Council will hold a cornhole tournament 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Barlow Fairgrounds new show barn. Cost is $10 a person, bring your own partner, and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places. Refreshments, food and a 50-50 drawing will be available. Proceeds benefit the chapter.
Ø The Marietta Friends of the Library will holds its annual Fall Sale on Oct. 6, 7, 9 and 10 in the Library Annex, 617 Fifth St. Times are 5-7 p.m. Oct. 6 for members only and 9-4 p.m. Oct. 7, 9 and 10. Oct. 10 is $2 for a bag of books. The group also will raffle a wall quilt, "My Personal Library." Tickets are $5 and 200 tickets will be sold. The quilt will be on display in the annex during the sale and is on display at the Branch Library. Tickets can be purchased at the Marietta or Lafayette branches. ¯ Republican candidates for Marietta City offices will be greeting the public at Republican Headquarters, 216 Putnam Street (lower level) from 5-7 p.m. during the October Marietta Main Street First Friday event. Refreshments will be available.
Ø The Marietta Civitan Club will hold a golf scramble at 9 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Marietta Country Club. Registration is 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Team entry is $300. "The Bells of St. Mary's" is a comedy and musical about a priest and a nun who try to save their school from closing. ¯ The Tuppers Plains Fire Department in Meigs County will hold its fifth annual 5K Run/Walk/Firefighter Challenge Walk on Oct. 8 at the fire station, 42040 Main St., Tuppers Plains. ¯ The Noble Correctional Institution will hold its annual golf scramble on Oct. 15 at Fullers Fairways in Zanesville. Cost is $65 a person or $260 per team. The fee includes a meal at the end of the tournament. ¯ The Pioneer Ladies Civitan Style Show and Salad Supper will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 17. Fashions will be provided by Maple Sugar Boutique and William Auctioneer will hold a purse auction. ¯ The fourth annual Mid-Ohio Valley Trunk or Treat will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Front Street in Marietta. The event is free for trick-or-treaters and anyone interested in participating in decorating a car and distributing candy. Participants who will give candy should arrive between 5 and 6:15 p.m. to set up. Trunk or Treat is hosted by Kassandra Erb and the Washington County Fairboard. Ø To celebrate the Great American Smokeout and Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the free Healthy Lungs 5k Run and Walk sponsored by the Washington County Health Department will be hld 9 a.m. Nov. 18 at at Indian Acres Park, 147 Linwood Ave., Marietta. The top 10 male and female runners and the three male and female walkers will receive a prize. Ø The Ohio Department of Development and Washington-Morgan Community Action will launch the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program to help income-eligible Ohioans with paying an electric bill or assistance paying for an air-conditioning unit, fans or central air conditioning repairs. The program runs until Sep. 30.
Ø Zumba classes will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O'Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.
Ø The O'Neill Center in Marietta will hold bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays. No cost at the door to play 20 games and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited.
