Warren students selected for Ohio All State Choir

VINCENT -- Six Warren Local High School students will participate in the Ohio Music Education Association All State Choir at the state conference Feb. 1-3 in Columbus. The six chosen were:
¯ Rebecca Ball, senior, daughter of Trisha and Matt Ball of Little Hocking.
¯ Nicholas Bland, senior, son of Billy and Joy Bland of Marietta.
¯ Mason O'Donnell, junior, son of Cathy and Mike O'Donnell of Cutler.
¯ Sophie Boothby, sophomore, daughter of Christy and Rick Boothby of
Marietta.
¯ Liam Nuzum, sophomore, son of Janel and Will Nuzum of Belpre.
¯ Taylor Richards, sophomore, son of Lori and Allan Richards of Vincent.
The six are members of the A Cappella Choir at Warren. The choirs are under the direction of James Sundquist. Students record a piece from the association's solo/ensemble required list in either Class A or Class B, of which the recordings are numbered and divided by soprano, alto, tenor and bass.
Directors listen to the selections and select participants without knowing their vocal teacher or what school they attend.
About 150 students are selected for the choir from across Ohio.
Warren Local students have been consistently selected.
Director of the All State Choir is Hilary Apfelstadt is retired director of choral activities and professor of conducting at the University of Toronto where she was received the first Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2013.
Apfelstadt also was director of choral activities and associate director of the School of Music at the Ohio State University from 1993 to 2010 and conducted choirs at divisional and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association where she was central division president and a national president.
