BEVERLY -- Fourteen-year-old Fort Frye Middle School eighth-grader Madysin Stoops gives her all in every aspect of her life: academics, athletics, and serving her fellow students.

Stoops said her grade point average is 3.87 and her favorite subject is English. One of her favorite teachers is her current English teacher, Rob Nelson.

"He's upfront and straightforward," she said.

Stoops said she likes to read and remembered a book she read in seventh grade teacher Terri Ashworth's English class.

"I liked The Outsiders (by S.E. Hinton). It showed what life was like back then and it was funny," she said.

Stoops said her favorite genre for movies and books is comedy. Her favorite movie is Step Brothers, starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

Stoops is a member of the Fort Frye Middle School volleyball team, who won the Washington County middle school championship this week.

"Last year we didn't even make the semi finals," she said. "We're a lot better this year."

Stoops said she was excited and celebrated with her teammates and coaches Bella Schilling and Jordan Huck.

Stoops listed attributes on why she thought the team won the championship.

"We don't back down and work hard and have good coaches," she said.

Stoops is also in her second year playing for a traveling volleyball team. Her favorite part is seeing different cities and meeting new people.

"We travel to Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. You can meet new people and it's a new environment," she said.

Stoops said officials in other tournaments can recognize her due to the network she's building.

She also said volleyball is a mental game that has taught her a life lesson.

"It teaches you not to give up. If you lose one set, you go out there and try again," she said.

Stoops said she likes to keep her teammates spirits up during matches.

"I like to cheer up my teammates and keep them in line," she said.

Stoops also said she cheers on her teammates so they will do the same in return.

"I want everyone to do that to me. I'd want them to be like, Mady you're doing fine.' Stop," she said.

Off the court, Stoops started a new extracurricular activity this year: Future Farmers of America. She's been participating in fundraisers for the department. One event she is looking forward to is the Career Development Events, where students write proposals and put together materials based on different career paths.

"I like to write if I'm asked to," she said.

Stoops has been a representative in the student council for two years.

"We make sure the dances are well done and we sell pop every Friday," said.

Stoops said she didn't set out to be in the student council, but enjoys participating.

"I wasn't planning to do it. It was something I just did," she said. "I like to plan things and make it happen."
