‘Death of a Salesman’ auditions set

The Mid-Ohio Valley Players will hold auditions for “Death of a Salesman” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 and 13 in room 205 of the Hermann Fine Arts Center at Marietta College on Butler Street.

Show dates are March 8, 9, 15, 16, and 17. Auditions will consist of reading from the script.

“Death of a Salesman” was written by Arthur Miller in 1949 and premiered the same year on Broadway.

The story is about the last days of Willy Loman, a failing salesman who cannot understand how he failed to win success and happiness. Through a series of tragic soul-searching revelations of the life he has lived with his wife, his sons and his business associates, the audience will discover how his quest for the “American Dream” kept him blind to the people who truly loved him.

Show dates are March 8, 9, 15, 16, and 17. The director is Jena Lane Blair.

The cast will consist of:

All ages are suggested character age and not necessarily the age of the actor.

Willy Loman, male 50s-60s: An aging traveling salesman who is beginning to lose his grip on reality as he struggles with guilt and crumbling family relationships.

Biff Loman, male 30s-40s: Willy’s grown son who has struggled to find himself ever since high school where he was a football star.

Happy Loman, male 20’s-40s: Willy’s youngest son who is a woman chaser and unhappy with his work life.

Charley, male 40s-60s: Willy’s friend and neighbor who is concerned about Willy’s fading condition and though he has to endure occasional abuse from Willy, he often lends him money.

Bernard, male 20s-40s: Charley’s son who was looked down upon as a kid by Willy and his sons but has grown up to be a successful lawyer.

Linda Loman, Female 50s-60s: Willy’s patient wife who loves her husband deeply despite his shortcomings.

Howard Wagner, male 20s-40s: the son of Willy’s boss. He fires Willy.

Uncle Ben, male 20s-40s: Willy’s older brother who has become rich. He only shows up in Willy’s memories.

The Woman, female 30s-40s: Willy’s mistress while he went on business trips.

Stanley, male 20s-30s: A waiter at Frank’s Chop House

Miss Forsythe, 20s-30s: An attractive woman in the restaurant that Happy, Biff, and Willy come to celebrate

Letta, 20s-30s: Another young woman in the restaurant

Jenny, 30s-50s: Charley’s secretary

All ages are suggested character age and not necessarily the age of the actor.
