Marietta Main Street today will bring another First Friday event to downtown Marietta and the "Farm Fresh" theme is a celebration of the area's agricultural community.
West Virginia University at Parkersburg is sponsoring the event that runs 5-9 p.m. on the Armory lawn. Families can enjoy kid-friendly activities that play on the autumn theme and usher in Halloween.
Local vendors from the River City Farmers Market will be on hand for a special edition of their usual Saturday market. WVU Medicine will be set up at the Armory along with the Kid Zone featuring Artsbridge, the United Way and Oak Grove Christian School, among others.
The 100 and 200 blocks of Front Street will be closed during the event to make way for a large display of tractors. The public is invited to view the nearly two dozen tractors and meet the local farmers who work hard to provide produce and meats for Marietta and surrounding communities.
At 165 Front St., Jeremiah's Coffee House will celebrate its grand re-opening of its new space and host a square dance on the street.
The Lafayette Hotel will have a dinner special that highlights fresh products available in the area. Their menu will feature pork chops from Cornerstead Homestead, with apples and honey from the River City Farmers Market.
The Blues, Jazz and Folk Music Society and its Cobbler's Coffeehouse Series Concert with the Rev. Robert Jones will be held at the Lafayette Hotel. Tickets and information can be found at the BJFM.org website or by calling 740-373-5522.
On Putnam Street, Peoples Bank Theatre will host local band OYO. People are invited to bring their chairs for the free show.
Clutch Collective will host artist Nevada Tribble and her custom-built sewing machine powered by a bicycle.
Wit & Whimzy will host local author Tom Moore with signed copies of his books, including his recent work "Truth Seeker."
Teri Ann's will celebrate its 62nd anniversary and host Jon Adelsperger of Windy Ridge Forge with his handcrafted knives and metal work.
Kids can decorate pumpkins while supplies last at American Flags and Poles where the Arnold family with their hit and miss engines.
Singer Soph Stevens will perform at Marietta Makery, and every purchase will receive a free sticker. Gold Line Jewelers, Andy's Toy Chest and Tabletop Puzzles and Games will offer sales. Hidden Marietta will have Zombie Brain Prize Bowl in its Harmar shop and Two Peas in a Pod Florist will be open late.
Among participating downtown restaurants are 740 Social, The Original Pizza Place and Over the Moon Pub and Pizza.
Jocelyn Adelsperger, McCarter Health Center Director of Growth and Chaos, helped coordinate the event and will represent the new McCarter Health Center in Harmar.
he Gateway will soon be open at 521 Fort St. and offer holistic and wellness services.
Downtown First Friday events are coordinated by Marietta Main Street and take place the first Friday of every month from 5-9 p.m. January through December.
Highlights of these events include shops open late, local artists and musicians, area organizations, and various happenings tied into the theme of the First Friday.
