In Downtown Marietta, the holiday shopping season will be in full Santa mode during the First Friday Moonlight Madness event Friday. Businesses will be open late for the annual Marietta Main Street event that features surprise discounts when shoppers check out their purchases. From 5-11 p.m., each store will have discount "snowballs," and customers will draw a ball to see what discount they'll receive. Discounts range from 10% to 40% but several stores will have a one-time 50% discount ball. Laura Pytlik, owner of Wit & Whimzy, says that Moonlight Madness is a popular community event that has become a tradition. "This is a fun way to kick off the month of December and the holiday season. People can enjoy saving money while they support their local businesses and find unique Christmas gifts for everyone on their list."
Shoppers will find additional specials throughout downtown such as discounted candles and spiced cider at American Flags and Poles. At Threadz Boutique, every purchase will be entered to win a gift basket and photographer Bruce Wunderlich will be on hand with his 2024 Calendar. First City Records will be offering discounts on merchandise, CDs and used LPs. Just a Jar Design Press will have live music and hot drinks, and Tabletop Puzzles and Games will offer a free miniature with every Warhammer purchase. Restaurants will join the festivities with special drinks and menu items. Levee House Bistro will be open for regular dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. with Mulled Apple Cider, then offer a Happy Hour with only desserts and drinks from 9 to 11 p.m. Tiber Way Grille will also be participating and serving up some drink specials including their Midnight Galaxy.
The choirs from Marietta High School will be having a concert on the Armory lawn as well as entertaining shoppers with carols as they walk around downtown. The concert will begin at 6pm. There will be free carriage rides through downtown sponsored by Jeremiah's Coffee House located at 165 Front Street and Baker & Baker Jewelers located at 105 Putnam Street. The carriage rides will be from 7-9 p.m. at each location.
