Police investigated the report of an employee theft at Walmart. The employee will receive a summons for misdemeanor theft after pocketing returned merchandise.
Police arrested a shoplifter at Walmart. Linda S. McVay, 76, was charged with theft after concealing $48 in cat food items on her person and failing to pay for them.
Nov. 27:
Police investigated the death of a 4-month-old girl. The body was sent for autopsy and the case is still under investigation.
Police responded to Walmart about a theft. Police learned the suspect, known to Walmart from previous thefts, failed to scan $109.65 worth of merchandise. Police will be requesting a warrant for the suspect's arrest.
Police were sent to 1112 N. Fourth St. concerning a male subject trying to gain entry to one of Marietta Memorial Hospital's buildings. On arrival, police learned that John Estes had been wandering in and out of patients' rooms on the third floor of the hospital. Once Estes saw security, he ran out of the building to 1112 N. Fourth St. and was jiggling door handles on the building. The police report noted that Estes seemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and he admitted that he did shoot up methamphetamine earlier. John P. Estes, 37, was arrested for trespassing and disorderly conduct intoxication and was taken to the Washington County Jail.
Nov. 28:
Police were dispatched to Marietta Police headquarters about a complaint of domestic violence that happened in the 400 block of Douglas Ave. Upon arrival, police made contact with the victim, who said she was assaulted by her boyfriend. Joseph D. Knutson, 36, was arrested and charged with domestic violence and taken to the Washington County Jail.
Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Greene Street about a fentanyl overdose. The Marietta Fire Department was on scene, working on a male subject who was revived and taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Police were dispatched to the Hampton Inn on Pike Street about a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival, police located a female that had been banned from the property earlier in the evening. As a result, Stephanie Amber Austin, 23, was arrested for trespassing and taken to the Washington County Jail.
Nov. 29:
Police investigated a domestic incident that occurred Nov. 20 at the Red Roof Inn. Mark A. Butler, 45, was located in the county by Washington County Sheriff's deputies, then arrested for domestic violence and taken to jail.
Nov. 30:
Police were dispatched to Marietta Police headquarters about a theft report. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who said two firearms were missing from his Ridge Street residence. The guns were later found, misplaced in the home.
Police investigated the report of a shoplifter at Walmart. Kayla A. Humphrey, 22, was caught stealing $49 in Christmas decorations. She was charged with theft and taken to jail because of an outstanding warrant in Springfield, Ohio, for failure to appear.
Police were dispatched to Marietta Memorial Hospital about a male, who was designated to be held, walking out of the hospital. Upon arrival, police made contact with the subject and walked him back into the hospital. The subject attempted to leave the hospital again and had to be secured in handcuffs. The male calmed down after several hours and remained at MMH to receive medical treatment.
Dec. 1:
Police were sent to Bridgeport Equipment about a shoplifting complaint. The investigation is ongoing.
Dec. 3:
Police responded to the 400 block of Seventh Street to check a subject's welfare.
Police were sent to a disturbance in the 200 block of N. Seventh Street. Ross Phillips III, 36, was arrested for domestic violence against his mother. He was taken to Washington County Jail to await his court appearance.
Police responded to the 300 block of Putnam Street about a missing adult. The man returned home Dec. 4.
Dec. 4:
Police investigated the unattended death of a 71-year-old male in the 900 block of Greene Street. Upon investigation it was found to be a natural death and the coroner released the body for burial preparation.
Police were contacted by the vice principal of Marietta High School about an out-of-control female student. Police learned that the student had settled down, but had screamed several profanities directed towards the principal and vice-principal. A summons will be requested on the female student for disorderly conduct.
Police conducted a missing person investigation for a 33-year-old male. The search is ongoing.
