Arc of the MOV holds inaugural Dance Night fundraiser

VIENNA - More than 80 participants mixed charity, socializing and music Saturday night at the inaugural Dance Night event at Grand Pointe Conference Center in Vienna.
The proceeds benefit the Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
"We provide resources for people with developmental disabilities from birth to adulthood," Arc Executive Director Michelle Curtis said. "One of our cornerstone programs is the West Virginia Birth to Three Program."
One of their cornerstone programs is West Virginia Birth to Three, which provides services to infants up to age 3 who are at risk of or have possible developmental delays. The Arc acts as the regional unit for the organization, including Wood, Wirt, Pleasants, Ritchie, Calhoun, Gilmer, Doddridge and Harrison counties.
Music was provided by the River City All Stars, a group made up of performers in various local bands and brought together by drummer David Wamsley. Wamsley has worked with Curtis over the past month to put the fundraiser together.
"We realized we didn't have a gig on Dec. 30. I approached Michelle and she thought it was a good idea," he said.
The event began with a silent auction featuring items ranging from Coach purses and cutlery sets to WVU dress shirts.
The River City All Stars took center stage at 7 p.m., featuring John Gallagher, guitar; David Cisler, keyboard; Greg Meyers, vocalist; Greg Strauss, bass; Jeff Flanagan, trumpet; James Gillis, vocalist; and Rick Willard, trombone.
"We'll play songs from the '60s, '70s and '80s," Wamsley said.
Curtis said the overall goal of the night was to mix charity and fun.
"We hope people have fun and learn about the valuable programs the ARC provides," she said.
