BELPRE – Belpre City Council held its second meeting of the year Monday and dealt with a pair of financial issues.
Council approved all three readings of a resolution supplementing year 2024 appropriations.
In addition, the Finance and Audit Committee will be holding meetings in the coming weeks to prepare the 2024 budget for the city of Belpre.
In her mayor's report, Mayor Susan Abdella told council that she and Council President Larry Martin have attended Mayor's Court Training in Columbus and have completed the background check process. With those steps completed, Mayor's Court will resume in February, she said.
Abdella also said community members may have received mail from MyCleanChoice.com. related to switching aggregation.
"This is not associated with the city's aggregation programs. Please read the information very carefully prior to making any decisions," she said.
The city is applying for grants through the Sisters of St Joseph for park improvements and for a Waste Water Infrastructure grant for the water tower project, she said.
Abdella said Belpre is under a mandate by the Environmental Protection Agency to identify lead service lines prior to Oct. 16, 2024. The city was notified about eight months ago about the need and has been working on a plan to accomplish this project, she said.
A Utilities Committee meeting will be 5:30 p.m. today to discuss the Water Tank Project. The committee will also meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 to discuss the waste water treatment plant project..
The Streets, Sidewalk and Storm Sewer Committee will also be meeting today at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between the city of Marietta, the Washington County Commission and the city of Belpre concerning running a sewer line north of Belpre along Ohio 7.
The Rules Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 to discuss backflow prevention regulations and the outpatient treatment facility moratorium.
