A local museum has received a grant for an upcoming project.
Northwest Territory Museum Society, who operates the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta, received a Trillium Local Activity Grant from the American 250-Ohio Commission, according to a media release.
The grant is for an upcoming project titled "Putnam House Virtual Tour." The project will create a 360-degree virtual tour of the Rufus Putnam House, which is located inside the Campus Martius Museum, the release said.
According to the release, Trillium Local Activity Grants offer up to $5,000 for projects with a local or community-wide impact. Projects may include exhibitions, interpretative panels, local commemorative programs or activities, local public events, public programs and smaller digital and documentary media projects.
The project will make the Putnam House tour more accessible to visitors and will be used for virtual visits with schools and adult learning groups, the release said.
Executive Director of the Campus Martius Museum Erin Augenstein said in the release that exhibit accessibility is key to the organization’s mission.
"This virtual tour will enable visitors who are unable to access the house the ability to view artifacts inside, as well as increase our capacity to create virtual visits for K-12 teachers and adult learning groups from anywhere in the world," Augenstein said.
The America 250-Ohio Commission was created by the Ohio Legislature in 2022 to plan, encourage, develop and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the impact of Ohioans on the nation's past, present and future according to the release.
In the release, Co-Chair of the American 250-Ohio Commission Doug Preisse congratulated the Campus Martius Museum on being awarded the grant
"Their efforts in educating the public and honoring Ohio's illustrious history are deeply appreciated," Preisse said. "As we near America's 250th anniversary, these projects will play an essential role in elevating our state's history and bolstering our communities' efforts to execute impactful initiatives during such a monumental celebration."
In total, 23 Trillium Local Activity Grants were awarded across the state for the fall 2023 funding cycle. There were more than 70 grant applicants, the release said.
According to the release, the American 250-Ohio Commission plans to work with Ohio Humanities, a nonprofit that supports story tellers across Ohio, to distribute $1 million in grants by June 30.
The winter 2024 funding cycle for Trillium Local Activity Grants is now open. Applications are due March 15. Approximately $600,000 in grants will be awarded during the winter 2024 funding cycle. The period of performance for projects for the winter funding cycle is June 15, 2024 to May 31, 2025, the release said.
