Marietta BOE swears in two board members, votes for officers

Marietta City Schools swore in two board members and voted for their president and vice president Monday.
Returning board member Russ Garrison and newly-elected board member John Lehman were sworn in at the board's organizational meeting.
The board voted for Sam Tuten as president and Cody Parman as vice president. The lone dissenting vote for each position was board member John Lehman. Lehman had nominated himself for both positions.
He also expressed disappointment that Tuten was nominated to be president.
Lehman said that Tuten is not cognizant of the entire scenario at schools to understand what dire straits they are in.
He said that Tuten and Parman haven't been around long enough, but he has and that it's time for a change.
Tuten thanked Lehman for his honesty when expressing his opinion about his nomination for the board presidency.
"I'm enthusiastic to lead the district for another year. As a graduate of the district, it's given me a lot, " Tuten said of being voted president.
Tuten said he focused on a lot of changes to implement the betterment of the district and that he is hopeful the organizational meeting reenergized the board. Parman said about being voted vice president, "I'm excited for another year getting to serve on the board."
He said there has been change in the district and there is a lot more to be expected and he is excited to work together with the board on changes.
There was a lengthy discussion during the meeting about reorganizing the board committees. It was decided there would be five committees, Finance, Facilities & Operations, Curriculum & Instruction, Extracurricular, and Records/Policy.
