One man killed in Newport Township fire
RENO — One man was killed in a fire early Friday morning in Newport Township, according to the chief of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department.
The identity of the adult male was not released.
The fire occurred around 2 a.m. at a single-family dwelling in the 2300 block of Sandhill Road, Fire Chief Jon Braford said.
Dispatch received a call from a neighbor at 2:12 a.m. stating the whole house was on fire. The first unit arrived on scene at 2:17 a.m. The house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, he said.
The Reno VFD was assisted by Williamstown VFD, Fearing Township VFD and Little Muskingum VFD.
The home was a total loss. The Red Cross is assisting the surviving family members, Bradford said.
He referred the case to the State Fire Marshal’s office for investigation. Calls to the State Fire Marshal’s Office had not been returned as of press time.
