OVESC board members honored during School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month, and The Ohio Valley Educational Service Center is celebrating its board members for their dedication and commitment to the OVESC and its member districts.

Superintendent Dalton Summers emphasized the influential role played by the school board members, highlighting their dedication, commitment, and forward-thinking approach in shaping the future of the schools and students. He emphasized their unwavering focus on serving member districts and ensuring the success of their students in future pursuits. Celebrating School Board Recognition Month serves as a meaningful gesture to express gratitude for their invaluable contributions and tireless efforts.

School board members are elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for public schools.

The OVESC board is responsible for over 11,500 students, 250 employees, 9 member school districts, and 2 career centers.

Recently, the OVESC received the High Performing ESC designation from the Ohio Department of Education.

A High Performing Educational Service Center (ESC) has generated total cost savings of at least 5% for its client school districts for primary services secured from the ESC instead of another source. The OVESC far exceeded the 5% benchmark in 2023.

"School board members give the community a voice in education decision-making," Summers said.

"Even though we make a special effort to show our appreciation in January, their contribution is a year-round commitment. Please thank our board members and let them know we support them and appreciate their service to our district."

Board members serving the Ohio Valley ESC are: Woody Biggs, Robert Burrow, Shelly Hess, Jo Ann Ingram, Jane Irvine, Trina Jackson, Patrick Lang, Stephen Ogle, Lori Parry, Lynn Warner, and Rusty Winland.

Summers continued, "we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the board members of our member districts as well. Their invaluable service to their respective communities often goes unnoticed and unacknowledged, despite its immense importance."
