Power outages in the region were reported by the electric companies in Ohio and West Virginia.
The Mid-Ohio Valley was under a high-winds alert until 1 p.m. from the National Weather Service in Charleston. Gusty winds will return on Friday.
The Washington County Electric Co-Op reported a power outage in the Watertown area that impacted 650 customers, General Manager Jeff Triplett said
The outage occurred at a substation just northeast of Watertown which is fed by an AEP 23 KV line that went out at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday. Crews had the power restored by 1:15 p.m.
“That was the only outage we had (Wednesday),” Triplett said, adding he did not know the cause of the outage, but was told crews located it and were able to fix it.
Scattered outages occurred Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, mostly in the eastern part of Washington County due to high winds which impacted around 300 customers.
“Those have all been taken care of,” Triplett said.
AEP Ohio reported 18 outages along Ohio 21 north of Frontier High School. Power was to be restored by 4 p.m., the utility said.
In West Virginia, First Energy reported 725 customers in Ritchie County were without electricity as of 1 p.m. Wednesday. Power was scheduled to be restored by early afternoon.
Most of the outages were in the Smithville area where 350 of 434 customers were without electricity. Other disruptions in Ritchie County were at:
Berea, fewer than 5; Burnt House, 22; Cairo, 24; Elizabeth, fewer than 5; Ellenboro, fewer than 5; Harrisville, 34; Macfarlan, 125; Mahone, fewer than 5; Pennsboro, 27; and Petroleum, 137.
In Calhoun County, 49 outages were reported, 33 of those in Grantsville and Mount Zion.
Forty-seven outages were listed in Wirt County, with 46 of 125 customers without electricity. Most of the disruptions were in the Brohard area.
Less than five outages were reported in Wood, Gilmer and Roane counties and none in Doddridge, Jackson and Pleasants counties.
