VINCENT – Allison Cade, a ninth grade student from Warren Local High School, has been awarded a Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Youth Grant through Youth Service America (YSA). The grant will support Cade in leading a community service project that addresses the issue of childhood hunger.

Before COVID-19, it was estimated 35 million people across the United States -- including 10 million children -- suffered from food insecurity. That number is expected to increase to as much as 50 million people. This is a problem that can be solved, and young people are a part of the solution. Youth-led activities will take place on Global Youth Service Day, April 26-28, 2024. On April 26th, Warren Local Schools will be holding a canned food drive to help restock the local food pantries in our area before the school year comes to a close. With the restocking of food pantries items, families would have access to food necessities throughout the summer months. The Sodexo Grant funds will be used to supply a tote bag to families that need help carrying food each time they access the food pantries as most pantries do not have an abundance of bags or boxes on hand.

Cade is one of 56 young leaders across the country awarded grants to organize projects to help end childhood hunger. Grantees will educate and mobilize their peers around the issue to help end childhood hunger through awareness, service, advocacy, and philanthropic activities.

They join young leaders and volunteers around the world as part of Global Youth Service Day, April 26-28, 2024. Celebrating 36 years of youth changing the world, Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is the longest-running annual youth participation event in the world and the only one that asks all youth ages 5-25 to work together for the common good while also recognizing the impact youth make on their communities every day of the year..

"The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation is committed to identifying, investing in and scaling innovative, youth-designed and youth-led solutions to childhood hunger," explained Joan Rector McGlockton, Chairperson, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation and Associate General Counsel, Corporate Affairs and Litigation. "I am humbled by the quality and volume of applications we receive each year," said Roxanne Moore, Executive Director, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation.
