BELPRE -- Belpre water customers with lead lines or who know where they are in use are asked to help city officials collect the necessary information.
In her mayor's report at Monday's meeting of Belpre City Council, Mayor Susan Abdella reiterated that Belpre is under a mandate by the Environmental Protection Agency to identify lead service lines prior to Oct. 16, 2024.
The city was notified about eight months ago about the need and has been working on a plan to accomplish this project, she said.
In other business, Abdella said she has held budget meetings with all departments to determine needs based on priority and current projects underway. She requested a meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee to be held at the Belpre Pool so officials can see the current issues and discuss the estimated cost of repair and timeline, which was later scheduled for noon Friday.
Abdella said the Depot Park bathroom key deposit has been increased due to replacement cost.
Council approved a voice vote expressing support for grant applications by the Southeastern Ohio Port Authority for the growth of the Belpre Memorial Campus.
A series of committee meetings will be held prior to the next council meeting, including Streets, Sidewalks and Storm Sewers Committee at 5;30 p.m. Feb. 19, Finance Committee at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 and Rules Committee at 6 p.m. Feb. 20.
