Two chapters of Citizens' Climate Lobby will be collaborating in their efforts to advance climate-related legislation.
Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) is a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address the global climate crisis.
CCL volunteers are organized into hundreds of chapters across the U.S. and other countries.
These chapters build political support for legislative action with a variety of tools.
By focusing on shared values rather than partisan divides, CCL builds relationships with community leaders and elected officials to educate the public and lobby Congress in the fight against climate change.
In the recently redistricted Ohio Congressional map, the sixth district of Ohio now includes the counties of: Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, Mahoning, Monroe, Noble, and Washington, as well as parts of Stark and Tuscarawas.
Two local CCL chapters within the new district, Marietta and Mahoning Valley, that were operating independently for several years have joined together to create a new chapter called CCL OH 6.
Because of the district's size, meetings are held via Zoom at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month.
The newly reorganized chapter has adopted a logo that highlights the OH 6 congressional district. Although the 6th congressional district is without representation in the House of Representatives at this time, due to Congressman Bill Johnson's resignation, the group said it will lobby his successor and the two U.S. senators from Ohio on sensible climate legislation that promotes economic growth and renewable energy in the eastern Ohio region.
"Both chapters are in the same congressional district and share CCL goals," Dr. George Banziger, group leader for the Marietta Chapter, said about their plan of greater collaboration.
"It will be wonderful to work more closely with the people from the Mahoning Valley CCL chapter toward mutually accepted objectives."
"We are excited to join forces with the Marietta Chapter and continue working towards solutions for climate change," said Dr. Alexis Smith, group leader for the Mahoning Valley Chapter.
