Meetings
¯ The Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be holding a regular monthly board meeting at 5:15 p.m. today. The meeting will be held at Ewing School, 1701 Colegate Drive, Marietta. All meetings of the WCBDD are open to the public.
¯ A Candidate Debate will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Washington State Community College's Graham Auditorium located inside the Arts and Sciences building. The Washington State Community College Criminal Justice Club will host a debate between the two candidates running for Washington County Sheriff, Mark Warden and Greg Nohe. The debate is open to the public. WSCC's Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Sarah Parker will serve as moderator.
¯ The next regular meeting of the OneOhio Region 12 Committee will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the John McIntire Library, 220 North Fifth St., Zanesville. The purpose of this meeting is to receive updates from the OneOhio Foundation related to the rollout of grant technology and to hear from community partners working to address the opioid crisis.
Events
¯ AARP Tax-Aide is offering free tax return preparation for all taxpayers on Mondays and Thursdays through April 11. Schedule appointments by calling Washington County Library (Main Branch) at 740-373-1057. No walk-ins are accepted. Taxpayers should bring all their tax documents including any letters from the IRS along with a copy of last year's tax return plus picture ID and Social Security cards for all family members.
¯ The Tunnel-Warren Chapel United Methodist Churches will provide a Free Community Meal from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8 as drive-through pick-ups in the lower parking lot. Please contact Amy at (740) 516-0847 by Wednesday evening to reserve a meal of chili or vegetable beef soup. Tunnel UMC is located at Ohio 550 and Coffman Rd.
¯ VFW Post #5108, 319 Pike St., Marietta, will be holding a February Brauts Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 9.
The dinner is $10 per person and includes brauts, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green beans and a roll. For more information call 740-374-9038.
¯ African Drum Class will meet from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta Social Hall, 232 3rd Street, Marietta. Master Drummer Lawrence Greene will lead the workshop. Suggested donation is $15 to $20. Advance registration is required. Please call Rev. ¯ There will be a Pancake Supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Belpre Heights Church, 720 Clement Ave., Belpre. Donations are accepted and gluten free options will be available.
¯ VFW Post #5108 will be holding a spaghetti dinner from 5-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14. The dinner is $9 per person. The menu includes spaghetti with sauce with or without meat, salad, and garlic bread.
¯ Students Solving Problems (SSP) at Fort Frye High School will be hosting a senior citizens prom for seniors in the area. ¯ The Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. Friday. Feb. 16, at the Salem Fire Department, State Route 821, Lower Salem. The cost is donation based. The menu includes fish, french fries, green beans, applesauce, hot dogs, bread/butter, desserts, and beverages.

¯ Our Lady of Mercy Church will be holding Lenten Fish Fries from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23, March 8, and March 22. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Drive through pickup for all to-go meals are $12 and there is no need to call ahead.
¯ The Warren Local Athletic Boosters 300 Dinner will be held at Dyson Baudo Saturday, March 9. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $120 for two. This event is for adults 21 and over. If interested in purchasing tickets, please contact Renee Parks at 740-350-5737.

– Feb. 3: Join Builders Club anytime between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm Saturday, Feb 3. This month they will build with Lincoln Logs. This event is for ages 5 and up and no registration is required.
– Feb. 5: At 3:30 p.m. Monday there will be a book-vs.-movie discussion about "The Hunger Games." This event is open to teens and adults.
– Feb. 10: At 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the library will be having Valentine's Day fun. They will have crafts and other activities set up around the library for participants to enjoy at their leisure. This event is for all ages.
– Feb. 12: At 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, take time to slow down for a minute and enjoy. Bring your current read and tell everyone about it. The Library will provide a small drink. This program takes place at the Lock #4 Coffee Shop,123 3rd Street in Beverly. This event is for ages 13 and up.
– Every Second Monday: At 4:30 p.m. there will be an informal book discussion at Lock #4 Coffee Shop, 123 Third St., Beverly. A small drink will be provided by the Library.
– Every Wednesday through April 24:
¯ The Breakfast Club Story Time begins at 8:15 a.m. and is for children ages 2-6 who are accompanied by an adult. Story Time will include stories, crafts, games, and music. The story time will include a small breakfast snack. The library will be closed at this time, so they ask those attending to use the back door.
¯ Starting at 10:30 a.m. Baby Bookworms will meet. Baby Bookworms is a story/play time for children 2 and under who are accompanied by an adult.
¯ Starting at 3:15 p.m. "Once Upon a Time We…", an after-school fun time for ages 6-12, will begin meeting. Topics for this event will change each week and activities may include crafts, games, or books. No registration is required.
– Every First Thursday: Starting at 6 p.m. Feb. 1, teens and adults are invited to learn about basic hand-sewing techniques.
This is part of the Let's Get Crafty program.
– Every Third Thursday:
• Starting at 6 p.m., the Let's Eat! Program will begin. The Feb. 8 meeting will be about chocolate. There will also be dipping, molding, painting with, and eating chocolate. These events are for teens and adults.
• At 6 p.m. Thursday Feb. 15, stop in and make Granny Squares using a Crochet Circle. They will collect the Granny Squares to make a blanket. The blanket will then be donated to a worthy cause. Hooks and yarn will be provided. If you don't know how to crochet, they will teach you. This event is for teens and adults. CAL (Crochet Along at the Library) will meet every third Thursday at 6 pm. No registration is required.
– Every First Saturday: Anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the Builders Club will be meeting. They will set up a kit for everyone to work on together. They will also have some blocks for people to do an independent build. This event is for ages 5 and up and is an "at your own pace program."

– Feb. 8: Crafternoon for Adults starts at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. Guest presenter, Nancy Gribble, will instruct the participants how to make three crafts: a paper basket, a hand and heart Valentine decoration, and a ribbon star. This event is for ages 18+ and registration is required.
– Feb. 12: At 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, the Adult Book Club will discuss "Wish You Well" by David Baldacci. "Following a family tragedy, siblings Lou and Oz must leave New York and adjust to life in the Virginia mountains-but just as the farm begins to feel like home, they'll have to defend it from a dark threat." This event is for ages 18 and up and registration is required.
– Feb. 14: Celebrate Valentine's Day with a "Victorian Tea" with hostess Nancy Gribble at noon or 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14. This free event is open to ages 18 and up and registration is required.
– Feb. 15: The ALLY Club will meet at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15. The theme is "Feelings February". Teens will get in touch with their emotions and learn self-care techniques such as journaling, yoga, meditation, setting goals, and sharing gratitude. ALLY Club is open to grades 5-12 and registration is required.
– Every Monday or Tuesday: Story Time at the Barlow Branch is at 10:15 Mondays or Tuesdays for Newborns through Pre-School. Registration is required.

– Every Wednesday: The WTB: Walking Through the Books Club will meet each Wednesday morning to walk through the book stacks, in a level, climate-controlled walking maze from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays throughout January. Coffee and tea will be available after your walk. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.
– Third Thursdays through May: Teen entertainment for grades five to 12 after school till 4 p.m.
– Every Fourth Thursday: The Junior ALLY Club will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month, after-school until 5 p.m. The meetings are from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Busing will be provided for a limited number of students. Busing options will require calling the library to sign up and sending a note to the school in advance. – Every Friday: A gaming hour will be held at 4 p.m. every Friday. This event is for ages 8-18. Participants must reserve their spot in advance and must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m. The space will be limited to eight people max. Spots will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Grab a group of friends and reserve your spot. A variety of video games will be provided to choose from each week.
– Used Book Sale: The library will hold a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Thursday Feb. 1 to Friday Feb 2 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 3.

– Feb. 5: Crafternoon starts at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, teens and adults aged 12+ can join to make an adorable Valentine's Day decoration out of felt and twine. Registration is required.
– Feb. 8: Kids in grades K-5 stop by and make their own pudding-based edible slime at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. Registration is required.
– Feb. 9: Come enjoy some modern romance titles and share recommendations for your favorite spicy books and sweet treats at the Sugar and Spice Book Club. At 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 they will discuss "Neon Gods" by Katee Robert. This event is for ages 18+ and no registration is required. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library desk.
– Feb. 10: At 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, BYOT (Bring your own tees) to the library and upcycle them into adorable multi-purpose tote bags. This is an all-ages event, but parents should be prepared to stay and assist children under the age of 12. Registration is required.
– Feb. 13:
• The Something to Talk About Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Join the club to read and discuss this month's book "The Best Minds" by Johnathon Rosen. No registration is required, pick up your copy today.
• At 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, those ages 12-18 can come create a personalized keychain. Combine your favorite colors and symbols as well as include your name or a phrase that's important to you to truly make it your own. Registration is required.
– Feb. 15: Kid's Valentine's Day Painting will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, kids in grades K-5 can join to paint a pretty picture to keep or give away to a loved one. Registration is required.
– Feb. 16: At 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, this month's evening book club will feature "Electra: A Novel" by Jennifer Saint. This event is for ages 18 and up. Copies can be picked up at the desk today. No registration is required.
-Every Monday: At 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, kids under 3 and their grown-ups are invited to come for a 30-minute story time experience. This program features developmentally appropriate stories, songs, and activities for the littlest library patrons. No registration is required.
– Every Wednesday: The Teen Pathfinder Role-Playing Group will meet at 4 pm every Wednesday. 12 to 18-year-olds can join the weekly teen pathfinder role-playing group for adventure and snacks. Registration is required.
– Every Thursday: At 2 p.m. on Thursdays, Feb. 1, 15, and 29, homeschoolers under the age of 12 can come hangout for some social time with their peers. No registration is required.
– Every Friday: At 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, kids ages 3 to 5 and their grown-ups are invited to come for a fun and educational introduction to the alphabet and the world around them. Each week will feature a letter or theme and families will have the opportunity to take home an enrichment packet to continue their learning throughout the week. No registration is required.

– Feb. 6 and 13: Come make Valentine's cards to give to friends and family and a Valentine's Box to collect your cards from 3-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 6 and 13. All supplies are provided. You will also be able to pack a "take-home" kit if you don't have time to complete the task in the library. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.
– Feb. 7: At 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, come discuss the speculative fiction novel "Vita Nostra" by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko. This event is for ages 18+. Call to register. Be sure to pick up your copy of the book at the Marietta Branch Service Desk or borrow it on your smart device using the Hoopla app. This discussion group will meet at the Starbucks located at 703 Pike Street, Marietta.
– Feb. 9: From 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, come make a love bug craft. This event is for ages 5-12 and no registration is required.
– Feb. 10:
• Leftover Craft Events will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Feb. 10. Come see the assortment of crafts available. Drop in and stay for as long as you'd like (or until the library closes), as well as collect supplies and take them home to complete your project. All supplies are provided. These events are open to all ages and no registration is required.
• An art series will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Feb. 10 and will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about different styles and artists. Specific projects will be provided that focus on a famous piece of art from a particular artist. There will be artist background information provided and videos when available. Join them on Saturday to do a special valentine in Picasso's "cubism" style. They will do this during the Leftover Crafts event in the meeting room. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.
– Feb. 16: Wand Crafting will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. Stop by the Marietta Branch for some magical crafting. Those ages 5 to 13 can stop by and make their own wand, quill pen, and Monster Book of Monsters. No registration is required.
– Every Monday: Stop by the library from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5,12, and 26, to learn about and explore black inventors throughout history. Make a craft based on their inventions and read about their lives to celebrate Black History Month. This drop-in event is open to all ages and no registration is required.
-Every other Monday: Art Exploration will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Jan. 29: Watercolors, Crayons, and Salt: Explore how different media interact. This event is open to all ages, and no registration is required.
– Every Wednesday:

Popcorn and bottled water will be served. Open to all ages. Those ages 7 and under must have a caregiver attend with them. No registration is required.

– Feb. 7:
• At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, join the library for an after-school craft program, they will make a tulle Valentine's Day wreath. This event is for ages 10-17. Snacks will be provided. They only have space for nine participants, registration is required.
• At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, kids ages 2-9 can join the library for an after-school paint party. They will provide all the materials needed to create your very own work of heart. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required.
– Feb. 8: At 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, those ages 12 and up can come for an evening of painting fun. Class size is limited so advance registration and payment ($25) is required. This class is led by Pam Springer and snacks during the event are provided.
-Every Wednesday: Kids ages 2-6 are welcome to join in every Wednesday beginning Feb. 7. Story Hour focuses on stories, crafts, socialization, and other activities aimed at improving fine motor skills. Space is limited so registration is required.
• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, will be offering a 13-week Grief Recovery Support Group starting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through April 9. Each session, the group will watch a video, featuring personal stories of those grieving, and hear encouraging information from the grief recovery expert. • A faith-based cancer support group will meet at noon on the second Monday of the month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave.
• A free men's breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the O'Neill Center. Donations will be accepted.
• The 1955 graduating class of Marietta High School will meet at 11:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice. All classmates and friends are welcome.
• The Washington County Bar Association and volunteer attorneys are offering a free advice clinic from 6-8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. The clinic will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta (enter through the back door off the alley behind the church from Wooster Street). Walk-ins are welcome.
• Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. All are welcome.
• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Adult Sunday school class is at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and fellowship available. A weekly adult Bible study with Pastor Doug Thompson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. All are welcome.

• The Alzheimer's Association support group meetings in the area include: Marietta Support Group, 10-11:30 a.m. first Fridays at the O'Neill Center, 333 Fourth St. Facilitator is Krissy Kearns, 937-974-2387, Belpre Chamber of Commerce, 1-2:40 p.m. second Mondays at 713 Park Drive. • The O'Neill Center will hold mani/pedis with appointments 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Cost is $16 for manicure and $33 for pedicure. Call the O'Neill Center for appointments.
• TOPS 399, Marietta, meets 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene. Weigh-in is between 5:30-6 p.m. Visitors are welcome, and the first meeting is free. Call Cindy at 740-629-2957 for details.
Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars
• Zumba classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O'Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.
• The O'Neill Center in Marietta will hold bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays. No cost at the door to play 20 games and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited. Also scheduled are: a free gentle yoga class at 10 a.m. Tuesdays; bridge at 1 p.m. Tuesdays; euchre at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; hand and foot cards at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; chair volleyball at 9 a.m first and fourth Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of the month; Free afternoon at the movies at 1 p.m. Thursdays.
• Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be held 7-10 p.m. second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Dress is casual. Cost is a $5 per person donation with singles and couples welcome.
