¯ AARP Tax-Aide is offering free tax return preparation for all taxpayers on Mondays and Thursdays through April 11. Schedule appointments by calling Washington County Library (Main Branch) at 740-373-1057. No walk-ins are accepted. Taxpayers should bring all their tax documents including any letters from the IRS along with a copy of last year’s tax return plus picture ID and Social Security cards for all family members.

¯ Marietta Bantam youth softball and baseball registration for ages five thru 12 will be from 5-7 p.m. each Friday until March 8 at 211 Linwood Ave, Marietta. You can also register online at www.mariettabantam.net.

¯ VFW Post #5108 will be holding a spaghetti dinner from 5-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14. The dinner is $9 per person. The menu includes spaghetti with sauce with or without meat, salad, and garlic bread.

¯ Students Solving Problems (SSP) at Fort Frye High School will be hosting a senior citizens prom for seniors in the area. The event will be in the Fort Frye High School Gymnasium from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. For more information, you can contact faculty advisor Pam Bennett at (740) 984-2376.

¯ The Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. Friday. Feb. 16, at the Salem Fire Department, State Route 821, Lower Salem. The cost is donation based. The menu includes fish, french fries, green beans, applesauce, hot dogs, bread/butter, desserts, and beverages.

¯ Norwood United Methodist Church will provide a free drive-thru meal, from 4:30 p.m. Friday Feb. 16 in the alley beside the church. Please enter from Vine Street and exit onto Colegate Dr. Serving will be from 4:30 p.m. until food is gone.

¯ St. Mary Catholic School Lenten Fish Fry begins from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 through Friday, March 22. Dine in, carry out and drive thru options available.

¯ The Beverly American Legion Post 389, 114 5th St., Beverly, will hold a Fish Fry from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. The meal is $12 and includes fish, fries and coleslaw. Music will follow from 7-10 p.m. The public is welcome.

¯ The Beverly Eagles will hold an all you can eat Fish Fry at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 16. For carry out call 740-984-4733. Entertainment will be provided by Misty Frye Karaoke.

¯ A benefit for Tamie Hart-Schrader will be held from 1-6 p.m., Feb. 17, at the American Legion, Post 389 in Beverly, Ohio. Spaghetti will be served at 1:00 p.m. for a $10 donation. There will be a silent auction, country store, 50/50, and other activities to win prizes. All proceeds will benefit Tamie, to help her while she is fighting stage 4 cancer.

¯ Our Lady of Mercy Church will be holding Lenten Fish Fries from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23, March 8, and March 22. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Drive through pickup for all to-go meals are $12 and there is no need to call ahead.

¯ The St. John’s Catholic Women’s Club will host an Eat-In or Drive-Thru Breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Churchtown K of C Hall, 17472 State Route 676, Marietta. An adult meal including eggs, bacon, home fries, biscuit/sausage gravy, and drink for $10. A kid’s meal including pancakes, bacon, eggs, and drink for $5. There will also be a bake sale sponsored by Churchtown Busy Bunch 4-H Club.

¯ Mary’s House will be having a Bag and Basket Bingo Fundraiser at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at St. Bernard Catholic Church Social Hall, 307 Seventh St., Beverly. Doors open at 1 p.m., 20 games are $20. Tickets will be sold at the door only. A 50/50 drawing, raffle, and concession stand will also be available. Proceeds will be benefiting Mary’s House for expectant mothers as they learn to care for themselves and their newborn children.

¯ The New Matamoras Community Pool will be holding a Basket Bingo at the New Matamoras Elementary School, Sunday, Feb. 25. Doors open at 1 p.m. and bingo starts at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $20. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, concessions, and door prizes available. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the New Matamoras Pool.

¯ The Warren Local Athletic Boosters 300 Dinner will be held at Dyson Baudo Saturday, March 9. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $120 for two. This event is for adults 21 and over. If interested in purchasing tickets, please contact Renee Parks at 740-350-5737.

¯ Local musicians The Troubadours are reuniting for the Washington State Foundation Student Emergency Fund. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

– Feb. 22: Come to a crystals and breathwork workshop during Learn Something New at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. This workshop, taught by Lynn Tisza, is full of fun and transformation focusing on two healing tools; crystals and breath. This event is for ages 18 and older and no registration is required.

– Feb. 26:

¯ At 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, join the library at the Cornerstone Inn for a stroll down memory lane during Remember When. This will be an open discussion on a certain topic. They are going to start with ‘date night’. What do you remember doing for fun on date night in Beverly/Waterford? A morning beverage will be provided. This event is open to teens and adults and no registration is required.

• At 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, during I’m With the Banned, they will discuss Laurie Halse Anderson’s ‘Speak’. Each month a new challenged book is chosen for discussion. They will discuss why some say they need to be removed and why others say they need to stay. Disclaimer: the books chosen for this book discussion have content that someone has found disagreeable. Copies are available at the library and using the Libby or Hoopla app. This event is for ages 18 and up.

– Feb. 27: At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, join the library at Riverbend Family Dining as they create spring wreaths during Night Out. A drink and appetizer will be provided as will the materials for the painting. This event is for ages 18 and up and registration is required.

– Every Second Monday: At 4:30 p.m. there will be an informal book discussion at Lock #4 Coffee Shop, 123 Third St., Beverly. A small drink will be provided by the Library.

– Every Wednesday through April 24:

¯ The Breakfast Club Story Time begins at 8:15 a.m. and is for children ages 2-6 who are accompanied by an adult. Story Time will include stories, crafts, games, and music.

The story time will include a small breakfast snack. The library will be closed at this time, so they ask those attending to use the back door.

¯ Starting at 10:30 a.m. Baby Bookworms will meet. Baby Bookworms is a story/play time for children 2 and under who are accompanied by an adult.

¯ Starting at 3:15 p.m. “Once Upon a Time We…”, an after-school fun time for ages 6-12, will begin meeting. Topics for this event will change each week and activities may include crafts, games, or books. No registration is required.

– Every First Thursday: Starting at 6 p.m. Feb. 1, teens and adults are invited to learn about basic hand-sewing techniques. This is part of the Let’s Get Crafty program.

– Every Third Thursday:

• Starting at 6 p.m., the Let’s Eat! Program will begin. The Feb. 8 meeting will be about chocolate. There will also be dipping, molding, painting with, and eating chocolate. These events are for teens and adults.

• At 6 p.m. Thursday Feb. 15, stop in and make Granny Squares using a Crochet Circle. They will collect the Granny Squares to make a blanket. The blanket will then be donated to a worthy cause. Hooks and yarn will be provided. If you don’t know how to crochet, they will teach you. This event is for teens and adults. CAL (Crochet Along at the Library) will meet every third Thursday at 6 pm. No registration is required.

– Every First Saturday: Anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the Builders Club will be meeting. They will set up a kit for everyone to work on together. They will also have some blocks for people to do an independent build. This event is for ages 5 and up and is an “at your own pace program.”

• The Barlow Branch Library, 45 White Oak Professional Center, Vincent, will present the following events. For more information or to register, contact the library at 740-678-0103.

– Feb. 14: Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a “Victorian Tea” with hostess Nancy Gribble at noon or 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14. This free event is open to ages 18 and up and registration is required.

– Feb. 15: The ALLY Club will meet at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15. The theme is “Feelings February”. Teens will get in touch with their emotions and learn self-care techniques such as journaling, yoga, meditation, setting goals, and sharing gratitude. ALLY Club is open to grades 5-12 and registration is required.

– Every Monday or Tuesday: Story Time at the Barlow Branch is at 10:15 Mondays or Tuesdays for Newborns through Pre-School. Registration is required.

Topics for February: Feb. 20 – Presidents Day; and Feb. 26/27 – Things in Three.

– Every Wednesday: The WTB: Walking Through the Books Club will meet each Wednesday morning to walk through the book stacks, in a level, climate-controlled walking maze from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays throughout January. Coffee and tea will be available after your walk. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– Third Thursdays through May: Teen entertainment for grades five to 12 after school till 4 p.m.

– Every Fourth Thursday: The Junior ALLY Club will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month, after-school until 5 p.m. The meetings are from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Busing will be provided for a limited number of students. Busing options will require calling the library to sign up and sending a note to the school in advance. For more information or to sign up, contact the library. **Junior ALLY Club is open to local homeschool families too! Just drop your child off at the library by 3:45 p.m.**

– Every Friday: A gaming hour will be held at 4 p.m. every Friday. This event is for ages 8-18. Participants must reserve their spot in advance and must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m. The space will be limited to eight people max. Spots will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Grab a group of friends and reserve your spot. A variety of video games will be provided to choose from each week.

– Feb. 15: Kid’s Valentine’s Day Painting will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, kids in grades K-5 can join to paint a pretty picture to keep or give away to a loved one. Registration is required.

– Feb. 16: At 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, this month’s evening book club will feature “Electra: A Novel” by Jennifer Saint. This event is for ages 18 and up. Copies can be picked up at the desk today. No registration is required.

– Feb. 22: At 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, kids in grades K-5 can join their library friends to create a delicious cupcake concoction. Registration is required.

– Feb. 23: Join Jed for a Tricky Trivia night at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23. This month is not themed. This will be a Kahoot Trivia night so please bring one internet-enabled device for each person attending. This event is for ages 12 and up and registration is required.

– Feb. 24: At 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, come enjoy singing, playing, and moving with your little one. The music circles are led by Martha Webster, music educator and National Board Certified Music Therapist. This event is for children ages 2-4 with a grownup and registration is required.

– Feb. 26: At 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, adults and teens aged 15 and up, come relax with friends and create some DIY self-pampering products during Love Yourself DIY Spa. Registration is required.

– Feb. 27: At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, young adult readers age 12 and up, join the library for this month’s book club. They will be reading ‘Everyone’s Thinking It’ by Aleema Omotoni. No registration is required. Pick up a copy at the desk today.

– Feb. 29: Get Ready…. Get Set… Go!!! At 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, kids in grades K-5 can come race against other players and compete for prizes. Registration is required.

– March 2: At 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, join the library to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ 120th birthday during Seuss-A-Palooza! Enjoy stories, snacks, crafts, and movies. This event is for all ages and registration is required.

-Every Monday: At 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, kids under 3 and their grown-ups are invited to come for a 30-minute story time experience. This program features developmentally appropriate stories, songs, and activities for the littlest library patrons. No registration is required.

– Every Wednesday: The Teen Pathfinder Role-Playing Group will meet at 4 pm every Wednesday. 12 to 18-year-olds can join the weekly teen pathfinder role-playing group for adventure and snacks. Registration is required.

– Every Thursday: At 2 p.m. on Thursdays, Feb. 1, 15, and 29, homeschoolers under the age of 12 can come hangout for some social time with their peers. No registration is required.

– Every Friday: At 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, kids ages 3 to 5 and their grown-ups are invited to come for a fun and educational introduction to the alphabet and the world around them. Each week will feature a letter or theme and families will have the opportunity to take home an enrichment packet to continue their learning throughout the week. No registration is required.

– Feb. 16: Wand Crafting will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. Stop by the Marietta Branch for some magical crafting. Those ages 5 to 13 can stop by and make their own wand, quill pen, and Monster Book of Monsters. No registration is required.

– Feb. 21:

• The Literary Ladies Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21. This book club reads cozy, wholesome, and inspirational books. February’s book is ‘Before We Were Yours’ by Lisa Wingate. This event is for ages 18 and up. To register, stop by the library and check out a copy of the book or borrow on the Hoopla or Libby apps.

• The Books and Brews Book Club meets once a month to discuss a book that has fermentation in it (alcohol). At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, they will discuss ‘The Whiskey Rebels’ by David Liss. They will meet at Over the Moon Pub and Pizza, 170 Front Street, in the bar area at the back. Non-Alcoholic drinks will be provided. Alcoholic brews will be purchased by attendees. This event is for ages 18 and up. Please call the library to register and stop by the library to check out a copy of the book.

– Feb. 23: Do you have what it takes to solve puzzles, answer riddles, and find the missing Quidditch gear? Find out in the Harry Potter-themed escape room at 4 or 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23. This event is for ages 7-13 and the limit for each session is 12 so registration is required.

– Feb. 26: Be inspired! Stop by the library from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, to learn about and explore black inventors throughout history during Innovators and Inventions. Make a craft based on their inventions and read about their lives to celebrate Black History Month. This drop-in event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– Feb. 27: At 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, come make a coaster by hot gluing pom-poms to a round cork coaster base. This event is for teens and adults aged 13 and up and registration is required.

– Feb. 28: It’s Back! How well do you know your significant other? Test your knowledge with the Marietta Branch Library’s Couple Quiz Game at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28. Any couple ages 13 and up can participate. Couples will be asked a series of questions as they try to guess what their partner’s answer will be. Every correct guess earns a point. At the end of the game, the two couples with the highest scores win the first-place prize. This event is for ages 13 and registration is required.

– March 1: Children ages 5-12 can stop by the library from 3-5 p.m. Friday, March 1, to make a St. Patrick’s Day Garland. No registration is required.

– Every Monday: Stop by the library from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 and 26, to learn about and explore black inventors throughout history. Make a craft based on their inventions and read about their lives to celebrate Black History Month. This drop-in event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

-Every other Monday: Art Exploration will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Jan. 29: Watercolors, Crayons, and Salt: Explore how different media interact. This event is open to all ages, and no registration is required.

– Every Wednesday:

• Story Hour for children ages 3 to 6 and their caregivers will be held at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. No registration is required. Call the youth services department for more information.

• Preschool movies for kids ages 2 to 6 will be shown at 3 p.m. Movies will last no longer than 30 minutes.

• Afterschool Movies are every Thursday, 4-5:30 p.m. All movies are rated G or PG and will run no longer than 100 minutes. You may call the children’s department to inquire about the movie titles. Popcorn and bottled water will be served. Open to all ages. Those ages 7 and under must have a caregiver attend with them. No registration is required.

– Every Friday: Toddler Time featuring stories and crafts for children ages 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers will be held at 10 a.m. No registration is required. For more information, call the Youth Services Department at the library.

– Every Second Saturday: Leftover Craft Events will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, Feb. 10 and March 9. Come see the assortment available including Paint by Sticker, Friendship Bracelets, Mandalas, and Character Drawing. Drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and stay for as long as you’d like (or until the library closes), as well as collect supplies and take them home to complete your project. All supplies are provided. These events are open to all ages and no registration is required.

– IT Specialist: An IT Specialist will be available to help with technology questions from 1-3:30 p.m on Tuesdays, and 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Fridays. They will help you learn how to use your cell phone, computer, tablet, the internet or Microsoft Office programs.

• The New Matamoras Branch Library, 100 Merchant Street, will present the following events. For more information or to register, call 740-865-3386.

-Every Wednesday: Kids ages 2-6 are welcome to join in every Wednesday beginning Feb. 7. Story Hour focuses on stories, crafts, socialization, and other activities aimed at improving fine motor skills. Space is limited so registration is required.

• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, will be offering a 13-week Grief Recovery Support Group starting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through April 9. Each session, the group will watch a video, featuring personal stories of those grieving, and hear encouraging information from the grief recovery expert. • A faith-based cancer support group will meet at noon on the second Monday of the month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave.

• A free men’s breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the O’Neill Center. Donations will be accepted.

• The 1955 graduating class of Marietta High School will meet at 11:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice. All classmates and friends are welcome.

• The Washington County Bar Association and volunteer attorneys are offering a free advice clinic from 6-8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. The clinic will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta (enter through the back door off the alley behind the church from Wooster Street). Walk-ins are welcome.

• Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. All are welcome.

• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Adult Sunday school class is at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and fellowship available. A weekly adult Bible study with Pastor Doug Thompson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. All are welcome.

Health

• The Alzheimer’s Association support group meetings in the area include: Marietta Support Group, 10-11:30 a.m. first Fridays at the O’Neill Center, 333 Fourth St. Facilitator is Krissy Kearns, 937-974-2387, Belpre Chamber of Commerce, 1-2:40 p.m. second Mondays at 713 Park Drive. • The O’Neill Center will hold mani/pedis with appointments 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Cost is $16 for manicure and $33 for pedicure. Call the O’Neill Center for appointments.

• TOPS 399, Marietta, meets 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene. Weigh-in is between 5:30-6 p.m. Visitors are welcome, and the first meeting is free. Call Cindy at 740-629-2957 for details.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

• Zumba classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O’Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.

• The O’Neill Center in Marietta will hold bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays. No cost at the door to play 20 games and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited. Also scheduled are: a free gentle yoga class at 10 a.m. Tuesdays; bridge at 1 p.m. Tuesdays; euchre at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; hand and foot cards at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; chair volleyball at 9 a.m first and fourth Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of the month; Free afternoon at the movies at 1 p.m. Thursdays.

• Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be held 7-10 p.m. second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Dress is casual. Cost is a $5 per person donation with singles and couples welcome.
