CHARLESTON -- Two Mid-Ohio Valley students at West Virginia University are among five recipients of a combined $12,500 from the West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association's Marcus W. Rennix Memorial Scholarship program.
The students will receive $2,500 each and be recognized Wednesday at the association's Winter Symposium in Charleston.
Local honorees are:
¯ Hailey Lane, of New Martinsville, a junior majoring in horticulture and graduate of Tyler Consolidated High School.
¯ Hayden Swain, of Ravenswood, a senior in the landscape architecture program and graduate of Ravenswood High School.
The association considers scholarship funding for West Virginia students studying horticulture, landscape architecture and nursery and greenhouse management on a rolling, annual basis, said West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association Executive Director Julie Robinson. Students must be in-state residents who have completed half the required courses in ornamental horticulture or landscape architecture and maintained at least a 2.5 grade point average.
Robinson encourages other students who meet the criteria to apply for the 2025 educational funds. Deadline for submission is Sept. 30, 2024.
