BELPRE -- The Belpre Branch of the Washington County Library celebrated the 120th birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss Saturday.
Youth program coordinator Charlie McClung said she estimated about 30 children and parents attended and she was pleased with the turnout:
"I did a lot of outreach in the program," she said.
"We have schedules at the front desk, I put it on Facebook, and told people I knew."
Refreshments inspired by Seuss's books were available for attendees, such as cupcakes decorated in primary colors, strawberry and banana kabobs after "The Cat in the Hat", and lollipops modeled after truffula trees in "The Lorax".
McClung also read "Fox in Socks", a story about a fox speaking in tongue twisters to a dog.
One station included a recreation of oobleck, a magical green substance that takes over a kingdom in "Bartholomew and the Oobleck".
Other activities offered included color by numbers sheets, painting and watching a movie based on Seuss's cartoons.
