The Marietta City Schools Board of Education accepted the resignation of band director Korey Parlin effective Aug. 15 during its monthly meeting Monday evening.
Numerous students and parents attended the meeting in support of Parlin and the band program.
During the public forum, junior Cameron Bean said Parlin's influence had taken the band program to new heights.
"Recently, with one of our educators, we have made a lot of long leap goals. Goals that have never been achieved before," he said. "This is really big to us. To see the program that we love, that we participate in, that it has gone from it has been the last several years to up over. We believe that it's because of this educator."
Bean said he had been through director changes before, which is difficult on students.
"As someone who's been through an educator change once, it's difficult. The first couple years afterwards are always rough," he said.
After the public forum, the board voted to go into executive session to consider the employment of a public employee or official. They returned at 6:57 p.m without further discussion.
