Easter Parade to be held March 23

PARKERSBURG - The Mid-Ohio Valley Easter Parade will roll through downtown Parkersburg at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23.
This year's parade theme is "Hopping Down the Bunny Trail." This year's parade marshal will be a group of West Virginia University cheerleaders, said parade founder and organizer Kiki Angelos.
"There are several that are from this area" that are expected to participate, she said.
The parade was started 14 years ago and has continued with the help of a dedicated committee of volunteers and the assistance of city officials, Angelos said.
Local churches, schools, businesses, organizations, area fire departments, antique cars, horses, dogs, drill teams and more participate each year.
The Parkersburg South and Parkersburg high school bands will take part this year and other bands are welcome,
Angelos said. Applications can be picked up at Auntie Anne's Pretzels in the Grand Central Mall or either of the Vienna Chick-fil-A establishments in the area. They can also be obtained online at the Mid-Ohio Valley Easter Parade Facebook page.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place for commercial and non-commercial floats adhering to this year's theme. Awards will be announced in the newspaper and on the parade Facebook page.
Units are asked not to have someone in a bunny costume on a float or walking with them. There is only one bunny in the parade, Angelos said.
Candy is allowed.
There will be one entrance for the parade lineup, at 19th and Market streets. Lineup will be at noon with a registration table at the corner of 19th and Market streets.
