¯ AARP Tax-Aide is offering free tax return preparation for all taxpayers on Mondays and Thursdays through April 11. Schedule appointments by calling Washington County Library (Main Branch) at 740-373-1057. No walk-ins are accepted. Taxpayers should bring all their tax documents including any letters from the IRS along with a copy of last year’s tax return plus picture ID and Social Security cards for all family members.

• The I’m With the Banned Book Club will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 18 to discuss Angie Thomas’s “The Hate U Give”. Each month a new challenged book is chosen for discussion. They will discuss why some say they need to be removed and why others say they need to stay. Disclaimer: the books chosen for this book discussion have content that someone has found disagreeable. Copies are available at the library and using the Libby or Hoopla app. This event is for ages 18 and up. No registration is required.

• At 6 p.m. Monday, March 18, join the library for a night of games and movies. Refreshments will be provided but people are welcome to bring yummies to share. This event will take place at the American Legion Hall. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– March 19: At 5:30 p.m Tuesday, March 19, Quilting at the Library participants will begin a small personal quilting project. This event is for teens and adults ages 13 and up and registration is required.

– March 23: The Eclipse Party will be from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Stop by the library as they prepare for the eclipse coming up on Monday, April 8. There will be crafts and games set up around the library for everyone to enjoy at their own pace. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– March 25:

• At 9 a.m. Monday, March 25, join the library at the Cornerstone Inn, 201 Fifth Street, Beverly, for a stroll down memory lane. This will be an open discussion on a certain topic. This month they are going to be discussing food and local restaurants. A morning beverage will be provided. This event is open to teens and adults and no registration is required.

• Join the library at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, as they combine two great things into one exciting event. They will be watching a movie and playing a game of bingo. This event is for teens and adults. No registration is required.

– March 26: At 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, join the library at Riverbend Family Dining, 415 Fifth Street, Beverly, as NASA Solar System Ambassador Program volunteer Tyler Hines will be joining them to discuss the newest news from NASA and to prepare them for the eclipse. A drink and appetizer will be provided. This event is for teens and adults. No registration is required.

– March 28: At 6 p.m. Thursday, March 28, come learn about the greenhouse at Waterford High School, 330 Main Street, Waterford. The Wolf Creek FFA will be available to discuss their hydro-garden. This event is for teens and adults and registration is required.

– Every Second Monday: At 4:30 p.m. there will be an informal book discussion at Lock #4 Coffee Shop, 123 Third St., Beverly. A small drink will be provided by the Library.

– Every Wednesday through April 24:

¯ The Breakfast Club Story Time begins at 8:15 a.m. and is for children ages 2-6 who are accompanied by an adult. Story Time will include stories, crafts, games, and music. The story time will include a small breakfast snack. The library will be closed at this time, so they ask those attending to use the back door.

¯ Starting at 10:30 a.m. Baby Bookworms will meet. Baby Bookworms is a story/play time for children 2 and under who are accompanied by an adult.

¯ Starting at 3:15 p.m. “Once Upon a Time We…”, an after-school fun time for ages 6-12, will begin meeting. Topics for this event will change each week and activities may include crafts, games, or books. No registration is required.

– Every First Thursday: Starting at 6 p.m., teens and adults are invited to learn about basic hand-sewing techniques. This is part of the Let’s Get Crafty program.

– Every Third Thursday:

• At 6 p.m. Thursday, stop in and make Granny Squares using a Crochet Circle. They will collect the Granny Squares to make a blanket. The blanket will then be donated to a worthy cause. Hooks and yarn will be provided. If you don’t know how to crochet, they will teach you. This event is for teens and adults. CAL (Crochet Along at the Library) will meet every third Thursday at 6 pm. No registration is required.

– Every First Saturday: Anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the Builders Club will be meeting. They will set up a kit for everyone to work on together. They will also have some blocks for people to do an independent build. This event is for ages 5 and up and is an “at your own pace program.”

– March 22 and 29: The library’s Family Book Club will meet from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Fridays, March 22 and 29. The book club is designed for 2nd grade children or older, and their families. Each meeting will include a reading, a discussion, and related activities. They will be reading two graphic novels; ‘Stargazing and Lo’ and ‘Behold’. Call the library to register and reserve a copy of the book. Attendees who participate in our book club will receive a pair of eclipse glasses.

– March 28: From 3-5 p.m. Thursday, March 28, bring your family and come play board games. This family event is open to all ages. Registration is required.

– Every Monday or Tuesday: Story Time at the Barlow Branch is at 10:15 Mondays or Tuesdays for Newborns through Pre-School. Registration is required.

• Topics for March: March 11 and 12 – St. Patrick’s Day; March 18 and 19 – Wind; and March 25 and 26 – Easter.

– Every Wednesday: The WTB: Walking Through the Books Club will meet each Wednesday morning to walk through the book stacks, in a level, climate-controlled walking maze from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays throughout January. Coffee and tea will be available after your walk. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– Every Thursday: The library will be holding beginner line dancing classes at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28, with Donnie Allen as instructor. The cost is $16 total for the four sessions. This event is for teens and adults. Registration is required.

– Third Thursdays through May: Teen entertainment for grades five to 12 after school till 4 p.m.

– Every Fourth Thursday: The Junior ALLY Club will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month, after-school until 5 p.m. The meetings are from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Busing will be provided for a limited number of students. Busing options will require calling the library to sign up and sending a note to the school in advance. – Every Friday: A gaming hour will be held at 4 p.m. every Friday. This event is for ages 8-18. Spots will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Grab a group of friends and reserve your spot. A variety of video games will be provided to choose from each week.

– March 14: At 4 p.m. Thursday, March 14, Kids in grades K-5, celebrate spring’s arrival by making a flowery painting using Q-tips as a brush. Registration is required.

– March 15: At 5 p.m. Friday, March 15, this month’s evening book club will feature “Shark Heart: A Love Story” by Emily Habeck. This event is for ages 18 and up. Copies can be picked up at the desk today! No registration is required.

– March 18: At 2 p.m. Monday, March 18, adults and teens 12 and up come to make your own adorable home sweet home decoration with colorful washi tape. Registration is required.

– March 21: At 4 p.m. Thursday, March 21, kids in grades K-5 can show off their Lego building skills with the library’s Lego collection! Need some inspiration? They’ll show a movie with your favorite master builders while you build! Registration is required.

– March 22: At 6 p.m. Friday, March 22, join the library for Disney Name That Tune for the whole family. Be our guest and show off your skills with your family or team of up to six friends! Registration is required.

– March 25: At 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, adults and teens ages 12 and up can come make colorful diamond-painted suncatchers to welcome spring. Registration is required.

– March 26: The YA Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. Young adult readers ages 12 and up, can join the library for this month’s book club in reading “The Raven Boys” by Maggie Stiefvater. No registration is required. Pick up a copy at the desk today!

• Join Jed for a tricky Trivia night at 6 p.m. Friday, March 29! This month is NOT themed. This will be a Kahoot Trivia so please bring one internet-enabled device for each person attending. Registration is required.

– March 30: At 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, come have a blast singing, playing, and moving with your little one. The music circles are led by Martha Webster, music educator and National Board Certified Music Therapist. This event is for children ages 2-4 with a grownup and registration is required.

-Every Monday: At 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, kids under 3 and their grown-ups are invited to come for a 30-minute story time experience. This program features developmentally appropriate stories, songs, and activities for the littlest library patrons. No registration is required.

– Every Wednesday: The Teen Pathfinder Role-Playing Group will meet at 4 pm every Wednesday. 12 to 18-year-olds can join the weekly teen pathfinder role-playing group for adventure and snacks. Registration is required.

– Every Thursday: At 2 p.m. on Thursdays, March 7 and 21, homeschoolers under the age of 12 can come hangout for some social time with their peers. No registration is required.

– Every Friday: At 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, kids ages 3 to 5 and their grown-ups are invited to come for a fun and educational introduction to the alphabet and the world around them. Each week will feature a letter or theme and families will have the opportunity to take home an enrichment packet to continue their learning throughout the week. No registration is required.

– March 19: At 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, come create a St. Patrick’s themed craft where patrons make a design by gluing buttons to a framed canvas. This event is for ages 13 and up and registration is required.

– March 20:

• At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, come meet the author Lori McColl and hear a story! McColl will read her first book “Dorsey Dern Goes to Bobtown”. Listen to the story of Dorsey Dern and pick up your own copy of the book to be signed by the author! This event is for ages 2-10 and no registration is required.

• The Books and Brews Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 20. The book club meets once a month to discuss a book that has fermentation in it (alcohol). They will discuss “The Drunken Botanist” by Amy Stewart. They will meet at Over the Moon Pub and Pizza, 170 Front Street, in the bar area at the back. Non-Alcoholic drinks will be provided. Alcoholic brews can be purchased by attendees. This event is for ages 21 and up and registration is required. – March 22: Between 2-5 p.m. Friday, March 22, stop in to paint and decorate an artificial easter egg. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– March 23: From 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, the library will host a puzzle exchange. People may drop off puzzles Thursday and Friday, March 21 and 22. Puzzles are as is, so users beware. Each person will receive a voucher for each puzzle dropped off. Puzzles cannot have any nudity or profanity. Leftover puzzles will be donated.

– March 25: From 3-5 p.m. Monday, March 25, stop by the library for their final international holiday in March! Try a traditional sweet and snacks, make a craft, and learn about Holi, the Festival of Colors. All ages are welcome and no registration is required.

– March 26: At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, gather yourself a team of three to four people and join in the Puzzle Competition! Five teams of three to four people will combat time and other teams to reign as puzzler extraordinaire. Don’t have a team? Register as an individual and they’ll make a team. This event is for ages 12-102 and registration is required.

– March 27: The Literary Ladies Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 27. This book club reads cozy, wholesome, and inspirational books. March’s book is “Mrs. Porter Calling” by AJ Pearce. This event is for ages 18 and up. To register, stop by the library and check out a copy of the book or borrow on the Hoopla or Libby apps.

– March 30: Anytime between 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, stop by and build a stuffed bunny! This event is for ages 4-10 and registration is required.

– The library will be holding several art classes throughout March and April to introduce patrons of all ages to the joy of creating art. Different mediums will be used on different days so be sure to come to any or all sessions. The art created at these free classes will be displayed at “Art in the Alley” in May.

• Saturday, March 23, between 11 a.m.-1 p.m., come create a piece of canvas art.

• Tuesday, March 12, between 3-5 p.m. come paint with bubble wrap on canvas, balloons on black tag paper, and dot painting on assorted colors of cardstock.

• Saturday, March 9 between 11 a.m.-1 p.m., come and create art in Georges Seurat’s “pointillism” style.

• Friday, March 15 from 3-5 p.m., come make some Aurora Borealis Chalk Art.

• Friday, March 29 between 3-5 p.m., create a Splatter Silhouette with Watercolors.

– Every Monday: Stop by the library from 3-5 p.m. on Mondays, to learn about and explore black inventors throughout history. Make a craft based on their inventions and read about their lives to celebrate Black History Month. This drop-in event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– Every Thursday:

• Preschool movies for kids ages 2 to 6 will be shown at 3 p.m. Movies will last no longer than 30 minutes.

• Afterschool Movies are every Thursday, 4-5:30 p.m. All movies are rated G or PG and will run no longer than 100 minutes. You may call the children’s department to inquire about the movie titles. Popcorn and bottled water will be served. Open to all ages. Those ages 7 and under must have a caregiver attend with them. No registration is required.

– Every Friday: Toddler Time featuring stories and crafts for children ages 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers will be held at 10 a.m. No registration is required. For more information, call the Youth Services Department at the library.

– Every Second Saturday: Leftover Craft Events will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Come see the assortment available including Paint by Sticker, Friendship Bracelets, Mandalas, and Character Drawing. Drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and stay for as long as you’d like (or until the library closes), as well as collect supplies and take them home to complete your project. All supplies are provided. These events are open to all ages and no registration is required.

– IT Specialist: An IT Specialist will be available to help with technology questions from 1-3:30 p.m on Tuesdays, and 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Fridays. They will help you learn how to use your cell phone, computer, tablet, the internet or Microsoft Office programs.

-Every Wednesday: Kids ages 2-6 are welcome to join in every Wednesday beginning Feb. 7. Story Hour focuses on stories, crafts, socialization, and other activities aimed at improving fine motor skills. Space is limited so registration is required.

• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, will be offering a 13-week Grief Recovery Support Group starting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through April 9. Each session, the group will watch a video, featuring personal stories of those grieving, and hear encouraging information from the grief recovery expert. • A faith-based cancer support group will meet at noon on the second Monday of the month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave.

• A free men’s breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the O’Neill Center. Donations will be accepted.

• The 1955 graduating class of Marietta High School will meet at 11:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice. All classmates and friends are welcome.

• The Washington County Bar Association and volunteer attorneys are offering a free advice clinic from 6-8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. The clinic will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta (enter through the back door off the alley behind the church from Wooster Street). Walk-ins are welcome.

• Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. All are welcome.

• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Adult Sunday school class is at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and fellowship available. A weekly adult Bible study with Pastor Doug Thompson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. All are welcome.

Health

• The Alzheimer’s Association support group meetings in the area include: Marietta Support Group, 10-11:30 a.m. first Fridays at the O’Neill Center, 333 Fourth St. Facilitator is Krissy Kearns, 937-974-2387, Belpre Chamber of Commerce, 1-2:40 p.m. second Mondays at 713 Park Drive. • The O’Neill Center will hold mani/pedis with appointments 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Cost is $16 for manicure and $33 for pedicure. Call the O’Neill Center for appointments.

• TOPS 399, Marietta, meets 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene. Weigh-in is between 5:30-6 p.m. Visitors are welcome, and the first meeting is free. Call Cindy at 740-629-2957 for details.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

• The African Drum Class will meet from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta Social Hall, 232 3rd Street, Marietta. Master Drummer Lawrence Greene will lead the workshop. A suggested donation is $15 to $20. Advance registration is required. Please call Rev. • Zumba classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O’Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.

• The O’Neill Center in Marietta will hold bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays. No cost at the door to play 20 games and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited. • Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be held 7-10 p.m. second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Dress is casual. Cost is a $5 per person donation with singles and couples welcome.
