Marietta City Schools Board of Education members discussed a contract for roof repairs during a special meeting Wednesday night.

During its Jan. 22 meeting, the board voted unanimously to spend the $1.3 million to $1.5 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds the district still had left and must spend by Dec. 31 on roof repairs and bathroom upgrades. The board voted to replace the roof on the district building located at 111 Academy Drive at a cost of approximately $450,000; to put a new roof on the bus garage at a cost of approximately $125,000; to replace the roof on the IT building beside the Marietta Elementary School gym and two other roofs at the school that cover overhangs and walkways at a cost of approximately $120,000; and to get a new roof at the alternative school in the district, Putnam School, at a cost of approximately $200,000. They also voted to use any leftover funds to upgrade bathrooms.

At Wednesday's special meeting, which was called to order at 5:17 p.m., Board Vice President Cody Parman read aloud a resolution to enter into a contract with Sixmo for $48,000 for design services for the roof replacement portion of the project.

Board President Sam Tuten and Boardmember Russ Garrison were not present at the special meeting. During the meeting, Parman and Boardmembers Eric Reed and John Lehman unanimously voted for the resolution.

After the resolution was passed the board voted to enter into an executive session for the reason of conferring with an attorney. They went into executive session at 5:19 p.m.

Marietta City Schools Chief Fiscal Officer Frank Antill said that no action would be taken by the board after the executive session.

The next regular board meeting is March 25 at 6 p.m. at 111 Academy Drive.
