COOLVILLE-- A public meeting on K&H Injection Well Waste Migration will be held at 7 p.m. March 27 at the Coolville Elementary School gym.
Residents of Torch and Coolville have posed questions regarding what is happening at the K&H frack waste injection wells in Troy Township.
The Ohio Division of Oil and Gas ordered injection to cease operations at the K&H Wells in June 2023, due to migration of toxic, radioactive waste from the wells to gas production wells more than a mile away.
According to the Ohio Division of Oil and Gas, the June order stated that the continued operation of the K&H Injection Wells presents an imminent danger to the health and safety of the public and is likely to result in immediate substantial damage to the natural resources of the state.
K&H appealed the order to the governor-appointed Oil and Gas Commission to reopen operations. The request was granted in October 2023 in spite of objections by the state Division of Oil and Gas. Though a hearing on the matter was later held in December, the wells continue to inject frack waste. The public is invited to a presentation and discussion of the current status of well operations and the state's stalled suspension process.
The meeting is hosted by Buckeye Environmental Network, Torch Can Do! and ACFAN (Athens County's Future Action Network).
