Forty area high school students attended Discovery Day with Peoples Bank and Building Bridges to Careers Friday to learn about jobs in the banking industry.

Community & Career Connected Learning Coordinator Kristi Leonard-Webber said they couldn't hold the event in the main Peoples Bank building on Putnam Street due to confidentiality, but the bank suggested a conference room they had two blocks down.

Students heard presentations from various bank employees in business and commercial banking, learning and development, informational technology, financial advising, marketing and retail. Groups rotated between presenters to make sure they visited every section.

Peoples Bank District Manager Danielle Bruni said this Discovery Day had been in the planning phase for six months.

"I'm on the BB2C board and work closely with them," she said. "It's been fun to see our work come to fruition."

Bruni said the students seemed engaged with their presenters.

Warren High School sophomore Hollyn Reed said she had two favorite subjects.

"I liked the social media aspect. It was cool to learn about how they get people to come to the bank through media.

Informational technology was really cool as well. I learned about how they keep the bank running," she said.

Leonard-Webber said students in grades 9-12 from Fort Frye, Frontier, Marietta, Washington County Career Center, Warren, and Waterford attended. Two students from Monroe County also attended. Kristen Hainkel can be contacted at khainkel@newsandsentinel.com
