What is happening at the Southeast Ohio History Center?

Upcoming events at the Southeast Ohio History Center in 2024 include speakers, exhibit openings, and silent film concerts accompanied by the History Center organ.

The Lyceum Luncheon Brown Bag Speaker series is generally held at noon on the third Thursday of each month. To accommodate speakers there can be alterations to the specific date or day of the week when necessary. Dan Rowbotham of the Maddog Center for Welsh studies will speak about Welsh heritage in Southeast Ohio on Thursday, March 21. Keith Milam, of the Ohio University Department of Geological Sciences will present on the Serpent Mound impact crater on Wednesday, April 17 and Pat Anderson will talk about Indian Trails in Southeast Ohio on Thursday, May 16.

Current exhibits include Southeast Ohio A to Z and a photography exhibit by Josh Zielinski entitled Recollections. An opening for the Rix Mills Remembered exhibit by painter and resident of that lost community, Paul Patton, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16.

Two silent film concerts accompanied by the History Center organ are scheduled for spring and autumn. Renowned organist, Dennis James, will accompany the 1924 silent film Girl Shy with Harold Lloyd on Monday evening April 1. James will return in the autumn to accompany the 1924 film Sherlock Jr. starring the ever popular Buster Keaton on the weekend of November 1 and 2.
