Meetings
¯ The Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be holding a regular monthly board meeting at 5:15 p.m. today. The meeting will be held at Ewing School, 1701 Colegate Drive, Marietta. All meetings of the WCBDD are open to the public.
¯ The Washington County Democratic Party will hold its reorganizational meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at their Democratic Headquarters, 227 Putnam Street, Marietta. Election of officers will take place that evening and all Central & Executive Committee members are encouraged to attend.
¯ The Warren Local School District Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Warren High School, Rooms 1710/1711, 130 Warrior Drive, Vincent. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss business related to the emergency levy renewal.
¯ There will be an open house at Aurelius Masonic Lodge No. 308, 46 Mechanics St., Macksburg, between 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Come and visit the historic lodge and learn about the Masonic fraternity.

¯ A baked steak or pork tenderloin dinner will be held at the Macksburg United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 11. The meals are $13 each and are carryout only. ¯ The Friends of Lawrence School are planning a reunion for June 1 at Frontier High School. • I’m With the Banned meets once a month to discuss a book that has been challenged. At 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, they will discuss Sarah Maas’ “Court of Thorns and Roses”. WARNING! the books chosen for this book discussion have content that someone has found disagreeable. Copies are available at the library and using the Libby or Hoopla app. This event is for ages 18+.
• At 6 p.m. Monday, April 15, join the library for a night of games and movies. Refreshments will be provided but people are welcome to bring yummies to share. This event will take place at the American Legion Hall, 114 5th Street, Beverly. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.
– April 16: At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, participants will continue working on a small personal quilting project. This event is for teens and adults ages 13 and up and registration is required.
– April 22:
• At 9 a.m. Monday, April 22, join the library at the Cornerstone Inn, 201 Fifth Street, Beverly, for a stroll down memory lane. This will be an open discussion on a certain topic. This month we are going to be discussing proms and school functions. A morning beverage will be provided. This event is open to teens and adults and no registration is required.
• Join the library at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, as they will be watching a movie and playing a game of bingo. This event is for teens and adults. No registration is required.
– April 23: At 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, join the library at Riverbend Family Dining, 415 Fifth Street, Beverly, as we learn about tinctures with Marie Scott. A drink and appetizer will be provided. This event is for adults and no registration is required.

• The Friends of the Beverly Branch Library meets at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 25. Up for discussion will be future projects and Summer Reading.
• At 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, the library will have their spring plant exchange as well as they will be making a garden pot craft. This event is for teens and adults. No registration is required.
– Every Second Monday: At 4:30 p.m. there will be an informal book discussion at Lock #4 Coffee Shop, 123 Third St., Beverly. A small drink will be provided by the Library.

¯ The Breakfast Club Story Time begins at 8:15 a.m. and is for children ages 2-6 who are accompanied by an adult. Story Time will include stories, crafts, games and music. The story time will include a small breakfast snack. The library will be closed at this time, so they ask those attending to use the back door.
¯ Starting at 10:30 a.m., Baby Bookworms will meet. Baby Bookworms is a story/play time for children 2 and under who are accompanied by an adult.
¯ Starting at 3:15 p.m. "Once Upon a Time We...," an after-school fun time for ages 6-12, will begin meeting. Topics for this event will change each week and activities may include crafts, games or books. No registration is required.
– Every First Thursday: Starting at 6 p.m., teens and adults are invited to learn about basic hand-sewing techniques. This is part of the Let's Get Crafty program.
– Every Third Thursday:
• At 6 p.m., stop in and make Granny Squares using a Crochet Circle. The Granny Squares will be collected to make a blanket that will then be donated to a worthy cause. Hooks and yarn will be provided. If you don't know how to crochet, they will teach you. This event is for teens and adults. CAL (Crochet Along at the Library) will meet every third Thursday at 6 pm. No registration is required.
– Every First Saturday: Anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the Builders Club will be meeting. They will set up a kit for everyone to work on together. They will also have some blocks for people to do an independent build. This event is for ages 5 and up and is an "at-your-own-pace" program.

– April 11: The Watering Can Art Studio from the Grand Central Mall will be teaching a painting class at the library from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, April 11. The cost for the class is $26.75. Payment must be made at the library by Friday, March 29 in cash or by check. Registration is required.
– April 15: At 1 or 6 p.m. Monday, April 15, the library will discuss “The Reading List” by Sara Nisha Adams”. An unforgettable and heartwarming debut about how a chance encounter with a list of library books helps forge an unlikely friendship between two very different people in a London suburb.” This event is for ages 18 and up and registration is required. Coffee and tea will be available.
– April 18: At 2:45 p.m. Thursday, April 18, the ALLY Club members will be planning and preparing for the Mystery Dinner scheduled for Thursday, May 23. ALLY Club is open to grades 5-12 and registration is required.
– April 19: The library will host a 60’s themed murder mystery party at 6 p.m. Friday, April 19. Each participant will portray a character working to solve the mystery. You must contact the library by Monday, April 8 to select your character. Refreshments will be available during the event.
– Every Monday or Tuesday: Story Time at the Barlow Branch is at 10:15 Mondays or Tuesdays for Newborns through Pre-School. Registration is required.
• Topics for April: April 9 – Rain; April 15 and 16 – Underpants; April 22 and 23 – Sharing; April 29 and 30 – Birds.
– Every Thursday: The library will be holding beginner line dancing classes at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 11, 18, and 25, with Donnie Allen as instructor. The cost is $16 total for the four sessions. This event is for teens and adults. Registration is required.
– Third Thursdays through May: Teen entertainment for grades five to 12 after school until 4 p.m.
– Every Fourth Thursday: The Junior ALLY Club will meet after school from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Busing will be provided for a limited number of students. Busing options will require calling the library to sign up and sending a note to the school in advance. – Every Friday: A gaming hour will be held at 4 p.m. for ages 8-18. Participants must reserve their spot in advance and must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m. The space will be limited to eight people max. Spots will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Grab a group of friends and reserve your spot. A variety of video games will be provided to choose from each week.

– April 9:
• The Something to Talk About Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. They will be sharing a recent book they have enjoyed and bring a suggestion for future books to read. This event is for ages 18 and up and no registration is required.
• At 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, teens ages 12 and up can come create Blackout Poetry. This poetry is created by blacking out words on a book page to create a new poem and visual art. Registration is required.
-April 11: At 4 p.m. Thursday, April 11, kids in grades K-5 can come to make a giant, stained-glass-style sidewalk chalk painting. Registration is required.
– April 12: The Sugar and Spice Book Club will be meeting at 5 p.m. Friday, April 12, to discuss “Raiders of the Lost Heart” by Jo Segura. Copies will be available for pickup at the library desk. This book club is for those 18 and older.
-April 13: At 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, those ages 5 and up can don their finest royal attire and join the court for high tea. Tea, lemonade, and refreshments will be provided. Registration is required.
– April 15: At 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, come paint an adorable bicycle canvas with the library while they walk you through the design step by step. This is a longer program, plan to spend at least 2.5 hours. This event is open to ages 18 and up and registration is required.
– April 18: At 4 p.m. Thursday, April 18, kids in grades K-5 will use seeds and beans to make a beautiful mosaic to hang on their wall. Registration is required.
– April 19: This month’s evening book club will meet at 5 p.m. Friday, April 19, and feature “The Wishing Game” by Angie Kinn. Copies can be picked up at the desk today. This event is open to ages 18 and up and no registration is required.
– April 20: At 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, Swifties ages 13 and up can join the library for a listening party of the newest T-Swift album, trade friendship bracelets, make mash-up poetry, and dance/cry along with the album. *Lyrics may not be suitable for all children. Parents are encouraged to be aware of the content.* Registration is required.
– April 22: At 1 p.m. Monday, April 22, adults and teens ages 12 and up can make their own cross-stitched dandelion bookmarks. Registration is required.
– April 23: Young adult readers can join the library for this month’s book club at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 23. They will be reading “Escaping Mr. Rochester” by L.L. McKinney. No registration is required. Pick up a copy at the desk today.
– April 25: At 4 p.m. Thursday, April 25, kids in grades K-5 can welcome spring with a beautiful pop art cherry blossom painting. Registration is required.
– April 26: At 6 p.m. Friday, April 26, those ages 15 and up can join us for pizza and board games. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and try out games you may have been wanting to play. Registration is required.
– April 27: A baby rave will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, and is for ages 2-5. Registration is required.
– April 29: Adults and teens ages 15 and up can learn how to make homemade soap using traditional ingredients and modern methods at 2 p.m. Monday, April 29. Registration is required.
– Every Monday: At 10:30 a.m., kids under 3 and their grownups are invited to come for a 30-minute story time experience. This program features developmentally appropriate stories, songs and activities for the littlest library patrons. No registration is required.
– Every Wednesday: The Teen Pathfinder Role-Playing Group will meet at 4 p.m.; 12- to 18-year-olds can join the group for adventure and snacks. Registration is required.
– Every Thursday: At 2 p.m., homeschoolers under the age of 12 can come hang out for some social time with their peers. No registration is required.
– Every Friday: At 10:30 a.m., kids ages 3 to 5 and their grownups are invited to come for a fun and educational introduction to the alphabet and the world around them. Each week will feature a letter or theme, and families will have the opportunity to take home an enrichment packet to continue their learning throughout the week. No registration is required.

– April 9: From 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, come make a pinhole camera. This pinhole “telescope” views things upside down! Learn a little about this early camera and make your own. – April 12: From 3-5 p.m. Friday, April 12, come make Galaxy Art with Acrylics to be displayed at Art in the Alley. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.

– April 17: The Books and Brews Book Club meets once a month to discuss a book that has fermentation in it (alcohol). At 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, they will discuss “The Simplicity of Cider” by Amy E. Reichert. They will meet at Over the Moon Pub and Pizza, 170 Front Street, in the bar area at the back. Non-Alcoholic drinks will be provided. Alcoholic brews will be available for purchase. This event is for ages 21 and up. Registration is required. – April 24: The Literary Ladies Book Club will meet at the library at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 24. This book club reads cozy, wholesome, and inspirational books. March’s book is “The Kitchen Front” by Jennifer Ryan. This event is for ages 18 and up. To register, stop by the library and check out a copy of the book or borrow on the Libby app.
– April 26: From 3-5 p.m. Friday, April 26, create Collaborative Flower Art to be displayed at Art in the Alley. This event is open to all ages and no registration is required.
– The Marietta Friends of the Library’s Spring Used Book Sale is Friday through Monday, April 26, 27, 28, and 29. Hours are Friday, April 26, 5-7 p.m. for Friends of the Library members only (you can join at the door); Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday, April 28, 1-4 p.m.; and Monday, April 29, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Prices Friday through Sunday are $.50 per paperback, children's books three for $1, and hardbacks for $1. On Monday a full bag of books is $3. The book sale is in the yellow house beside the library at 617 Fifth Street.
– The library will hold several art classes throughout March and April to introduce patrons of all ages to the joy of creating art. Different media will be used on different days. The art created at these free classes will be displayed at “Art in the Alley” May 10-12.

– April 22: Stop by the library the week of April 15 to pick up your Earth Day Scavenger hunt form. Return your completed form to the library and receive a take-it-and-make-it craft and a sweet treat courtesy of Rachel’s Bake and Take! – April: Stop by the Lafayette Branch during April to participate in the guessing game. Guess how many cupcake liners are in the container without going over to win.
– May 6: Come rain or shine to the Lafayette Branch Library from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, May 6 for a Plant Swap. Some tips for first-time plant swappers: Plants should be in a container. Label plants as well as possible (annual/perennial, sun/shade, bloom color, etc.). Bring flats or trays to bring your new plants home. Plants should be well watered as well as pest and disease-free. Finally, dig plants a few days in advance so they can recover and water well. Plant and gardening books will be available to check out. There will be door prizes every hour and the Munchies food truck will also be at the event.
• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, will be offering two 13-week Grief Recovery Support Groups from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., through April 9. Each session, the group will watch a video, featuring personal stories of those grieving, and hear encouraging information from the grief recovery expert. • A faith-based cancer support group will meet at noon on the second Monday of the month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta.
• A free men's breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the O'Neill Center. Donations will be accepted.
• The 1955 graduating class of Marietta High School will meet at 11:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice. All classmates and friends are welcome.
• The Washington County Bar Association and volunteer attorneys are offering a free advice clinic from 6-8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. The clinic will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta (enter through the back door off the alley behind the church from Wooster Street). Walk-ins are welcome.
• Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. All are welcome.
• Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Adult Sunday school class is at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and fellowship available. Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars
¯ African Drum Class will meet from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta Social Hall; 232 3rd Street, Marietta. Master Drummer Lawrence Greene will lead the workshop. A suggested donation of $15 to $20 is appreciated. Advance registration is required. Call Rev. ¯ The Career Center will hold babysitting training from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, April 27. It is $45 per person and will last 4 hours. Due to its hands-on structure, class size is limited. • Zumba classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O'Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.
• The O'Neill Center in Marietta will hold bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays. No cost at the door to play 20 games and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited. Also scheduled are: a free gentle yoga class at 10 a.m. Tuesdays; bridge at 1 p.m. Tuesdays; euchre at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; hand and foot cards at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; chair volleyball at 9 a.m first and fourth Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of the month; Free afternoon at the movies at 1 p.m. Thursdays.
• Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be held 7-10 p.m. second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Dress is casual. Cost is a $5 per person donation with singles and couples welcome.
